Nathan Smith won his CX Worlds bronze on a bike he borrowed from Sven Nys, after his bikes were deemed to have failed to meet UCI standards AFTER he'd arrived in the USA. Arguably makes his achievement even more impressive.

@writebikerepeat @Huge_action ‘Failed’ might well be lost in translation literally. I don’t have any insider info but it’s a fact that the Ribble CX bikes are missing from the approved UCI list unlike their road bikes. Failing standards isn’t the same as not having the badge… although the DQ is the same

@Huge_action @TheCrosscast It begs the question (a) why was it not picked up sooner and (b) how did British Cycling allow their rider to travel to an international competition with illegal bikes. Some answers are required I think.

Both Brand and Betsema use XTR which are not the best for ice, but better in other conditions and bulletproof reliability. The problem is the shoes not the pedals! N

@TheCrosscast @CXHairs Seems that MVDP doesn’t have the advantage of his natural ability and early maturity so much. Field has really improved and obvs that WVA is at least as strong ( if not more so) than MVDP. Hopefully they’ll both be right on form for Worlds.
