@EllieChowns As usual, i checked your wiki. Never done much living overseas it seems, you have no real understanding. It gives little soft power - is there such a thing? Soft power only exists if backed by hard power. Learn history.

Cutting international aid is a false economy – and one which puts Britain’s security at greater risk. The UK’s defence does not exist in isolation from global security. You cannot make Britain safer by making the rest of the world more unstable.

@LabourTogether Poor councils (likely) would trash local property markets. Property is the only real source of wealth of UK citizens. Sounds great to a uni grad or academic. Real life sounds dreadful

Councils would also get real skin in the game: the ability to vary tax rates, keep extra income from growing their local economy, and be judged on results. No more every council raising tax by the same amount just to keep up with care costs

NEW REPORT: We're calling for a 'big bang' reform of local government finance. Nationalise the funding of adult social care and replace council tax and stamp duty with a proportional property tax 🧵

Connected TV is a $30B+ ad market. Contextual AI makes it targetable without cookies, without tracking, without creepy surveillance. Privacy-first advertising isn't a compromise. It's better advertising. That's what we're building at @Gfinity with Connected IQ.

@david_smith1984 @PubMatic Revenue and profits need to be RNs’ed. The connectivity of pubmatic vastly enhances our model performance. Performance coupled with the fact we have lowest cost in market (we built and operate very cheaply) would indeed supercharge performance.

You think like a politician. House market trends are decades long and not fixable by you. Main problem was BoE zero rate policy which turbocharged asset prices, this hopefully settles out over a decade or so as we normalise to higher rates (unless BoE cut big again which is likely). Rental market is collapsing i am told on the ground, people are trying sell flats and supply huge in towns in SE England. The house price data does not correlate to what i see on the ground. Finally, demand should reduce if immigration curtailed (every landlord i know rents flats to foreigners) and anyway demographics mean the demand side self corrects in a generation?

Increasing employers’ National Insurance makes hiring more expensive just as businesses decide whether to recruit. And outdated business rates still hold back high street businesses. We should be removing these barriers to growth. express.co.uk/news/politics/…

@AndyFitchet @lordmvarder there are so many things wrong in what you say. minimum wage people are not the problem, labour is silently gutting the middle classes, who are the real power behind the economy. What good is comparing to Germany? You likely advocate rejoining EU even though this disavows that

@lordmvarder Actually, that’s not correct. In the last 12 months the UK economy grew at 1.3% - faster than any major European economy (Germany 0.2%, France 0.6%, Italy 0.5%).

In April, energy prices will come *down* £117 a year and minimum wage will go *up* £950 a year. Making someone on minimum wage £1067 a year better off. This Labour govt, like all govt’s, has made mistakes but not doing enough to tackle the cost of living isn’t one of them.

@jamesd_graham Reporting could be modernised and standardised, in line with modern systems (annual report is very 1990's). AIM cut Nomads - save 100s of millions. Cut CGT - this is bigger than stamp duty problem. Make tax exemptions for UK shares only and not foreign exchanges. etc

The downward spiral has a compounding effect. As capital leaves, the market becomes shallower and less liquid - valuations fall and the incentives to leave increase. We must reverse the decline. This must be done by an aggressive agenda to make London the best and easiest place in the world to list and trade shares. At a minimum this means: - Removing all diversity listing requirements. - Scrapping carbon reporting requirements - Disempowering The Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures. - Abolishing Stamp Duty on shares. - Reduce free float requirements.

London is haemorrhaging capital. We are strangling the City, Britain's golden goose in red tape and ESG requirements. CRH, the worlds largest construction materials firm is fleeing the London Stock Exchange. This means £53 BILLION leaving London. 🧵

@TheSalesBull1 Utter nonsense. 1/ There is no ‘our’ oil and gas. The Tories privatised extraction, refining, & distribution 40 years ago. 2/ North Sea oil & gas peaked in 1999. 3/ Even with new licences, extraction will fall by 95% between 2026 & 2050. 4/ New drilling won’t change prices.

The British public would revolt if they actually understood how much oil and gas is sitting under the North Sea We could have Scandinavian level public services with Arabian levels of tax All we have to do is drill
Mark Kleinman@MarkKleinmanSky

Exclusive: Make UK, the manufacturers' lobbying group, will write to energy secretary Ed Miliband today to urge him to approve new drilling licences at two major North Sea oil and gas fields amid the energy price spikes triggered by the war in Iran. #liveblog-body" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">news.sky.com/story/mark-kle…

We’re one year into @hmtreasury’s education tax gouge & one in ten children have moved out of their independent school (which was costing HMG precisely nothing). Will we see 10% attrition per annum? What will be the effect on pedagogical freedom?

@christiandean_ @_FriedrichMerz fascinating. a chatty calculator skims thousands of pages of eu law, won’t say what it counted or why, and somehow lands on ‘bin 89%’. impressive figure, but that’s numerology, not legal analysis – more pub quiz than policy review.

This week Labour MPs voted to stop good or outstanding schools from being able to expand, or even stay the same size. It’s madness. Why on earth would you want to stop good schools from being able to grow? It’s bad for parents, bad for schools & above all bad for children.

@blaiklockBP This is just starting. Talking to parents, it is clear that this made it too unaffordable for many. Unfortunately, a poor state system will find the Private School refugees live in the best post codes, thus squeeze out the kids who are less privileged from the best state schools

Enough is enough. Social media is ruining our children’s childhoods. Tonight, @Conservatives will force a vote in Parliament to get kids off social media. Labour needs to stop sitting on the fence, show some backbone, and back our amendment.
Laura Trott MP@LauraTrottMP

Ministers still can’t say if raising the social media age to 16 is even something they’ll commit to. Labour must stop dragging their feet. Half-hearted measures & consultations are not good enough. If MPs truly want children off social media, then they should vote for it tonight.
