🚨 do you understand what Macron just announced..
the French President is calling on medium-sized powers to "join forces and stand up" to the US AND China.. not one superpower.. both of them..
here's why today of all days matters..
this morning a French ship became the first Western vessel to cross the Strait of Hormuz since the Iran war started.. France chose the table when the US chose the carrier group.. and now Macron is formally proposing a third bloc..
In 1961 Yugoslavia's Tito, India's Nehru, and Egypt's Nasser founded the Non-Aligned Movement.. nations that refused to choose sides in the Cold War.. the US and USSR both tried to destroy it.. because a world where medium powers don't choose sides is a world where superpowers lose leverage..
Macron is attempting something harder.. he's not asking poor countries to stay neutral.. he's asking nuclear-armed, economically significant nations to actively resist both superpowers..
and he's announcing this on the same day Trump said America will "take the oil and make a fortune" from Iran.. and Polymarket gives a 72% chance Trump calls him before the month is out..
America has spent 80 years building a world order around its own power..
France just called a meeting to build something else..
and Trump is already reaching for the phone..

Americans should understand Europeans crying about how the evil colonial empire America has mistreated them is an attempt to manufacture a casus belli, a grievance, which justifies Europe betraying America and allying with China. Europeans are already planning the breakup.

@RonX1811 We provided UK limited assistance in 1982 Falklands war, but not Tomahawks, which were not deployed in US Navy until 1984.
US had interest in supporting UK/French operations in North Africa.
US was leader in pressing NATO to act against Serbia.

Why are Americans surprised by this and angry about it?
It is almost as if sabotaging the remnants of the unipolar world order, as well as constantly threatening and blackmailing your European allies, might negatively affect their willingness to trust and support the US.

When US administration consulted with allies in advance (1991 Gulf War, Afghanistan, 2003 war with Iraq), US received plenty of assistance from allies.
Perhaps if Hegseth devoted some more time to diplomacy with NATO defense ministers, he would have received help. 2/2

US planes are conducting operations in Iran from UK bases. And “sold us out” seems a bit much. If the US valued a coalition for this war, it could have tried to build one instead of threatening to attack Denmark and trashing our coalition allies from Iraq & Afghanistan.

When this is over, the western part of NATO will never be the same. Spain, England, France and Italy have sold us out, as they too often have a history of doing. Eastern European nations are the heart of NATO. They spend money on defense, know how to fight and love the US. France particularly deserves fault and blame. From supporting China and Russia at the UN to denying Americans overflight rights, they’re doing what they’ve always done - showing weakness, while cutting deals with terrorists. (The reason the US has a Marine Corps and Navy is unlike France, we refused to pay a ransom to the Barbary Pirates. France is always happy to cut a deal.) Wars have unintended consequences as nations show their true colors. NATO will never be the same, and Western European weakness and acquiescence is the cause.
