THURSDAY, March 12, 2026 could feature thundersnow in the Mid-Atlantic as the atmosphere cools FAST behind a front. It's the same front that brought tornadoes/melon-sized hail in Illinois. Now it's scouring out the warm air; Washington D.C. could go from 80 degrees to SNOW in 24 hours! Models are hinting at some instability, or thunderstorm fuel, and rapidly-dropping temperatures along the front should allow rain to flip to heavy, wet snow. There could be some isolated, sporadic lightning strikes as a result; any ground strokes would be disproportionately likely to strike tall human-made towers (radio, television, cell), skyscrapers and/or wind turbines. Snowfall rates briefly exceeding 2 inches per hour are possible at times! Granted most of the snow will melt either immediately or quickly thereafter given warm ground temperatures.
