Thread 🧵 1/15 I just found 3 old notebooks filled with failed business ideas. Airbnb Hot Tub Cleaning. Digital Marketing firm. Crepe food truck. Online thrift store. Xmas tree farm. Drop shipping. You name it. Dozens of pages of ideas I never launched, dating back to 2019.

Dear algorithm, get me out of the hellscape X feed of people giving business advice when they have never been successful at business.

@jonbrosio Gary Vee has the opposite approach. It feels like either way works, just depends on what you can do consistently. Different strokes for different folks.

Your content strategy shouldn't be: "Post everywhere and hope something hits" It should be: "Post one place, consistently, helping one person, solve one problem, with one clear call to action" Omnipresence is overrated Omniprofitable is underrated

I hate seeing “solve a problem and sell the solution” posted like it’s some great insight. Give me EXAMPLES. Show me. Elaborate on ideas.

I hear people talking about X not being the “place” anymore…. Is that true? Should we be focusing our time elsewhere, such as Substack for longform content?

@KevinSzabo14 Exactly! I actually just made a Video on this last night. I explain why working for free is a much better and more honest alternative than “fake it, ‘til you make it”. Check it out, I appreciate any feedback :) youtu.be/hR2iVohTBLE?si…

Most people can't mentally do the work for free for 6 months. That's why they can't get anywhere in life. But that’s when true change is made.

@matt_gray_ Personally the best way I have found to combat my own burnout is by finding great clarity. If I know the exact actions I need to take, I don’t waste time going down paths that don’t matter.

I met a writer that quit her job because ChatGPT told her to. Makes you think about where we are heading and how many people lack the self awareness to use AI as a tool rather than a God.

@MikeAlbiola I mean if you can quit everything a pursue your passion then go for it haha But I don’t love when now-millionaires tell people to quit their jobs.

@TheEmilyPackham It’s definitely romanticized. But there’s nothing wrong with going the stable path. It’s just not gonna be as sexy.

Don't quit your day job to pursue your passion. Just because someone else had the luxury of being able to quit their job, use savings, and go all in on their dream does not mean that is the only way to do it. You can make meaningful steps towards growing something on the side by better utilizing your time and ALSO not stress about keeping a roof over your head.

@TaylinSimmonds Read with the expectation of learning one new thing. Don’t expect to retain every single insight. Take the pressure off.

Don’t read to learn. Real learning is not about collecting insights; it's about integrating insights into new behavior. A book is only allowed if it solves a current problem, improves an urgent decision, or clarifies your next move. This alone will fix your anxious mind.

@lavanya_sf It is what gives you the confidence to charge, not to mention it is more honest to work for free when you don’t have anything to offer.

Hustle porn says "never work for free, know your worth." I disagree. Sometimes working for free is the fastest way to learn. It is okay to realize that maybe your times is literally worth $0. For now.

@readswithravi It is amazing to see how much time we wasted scrolling. If you think you don't have time to read, yes you do.

This makes me think: I think many people (myself included) have a deep fear of what others think of us. Especially strangers online. Which is why we deem "influencers" or "content creators" as embarrassing even though this has made many people extremely successful. Just a late night thought haha

Soon I need to decide if I keep going for free or start charging. I've earned the right to ask for money now. The lesson: You don't deserve to be paid if you don't know what you're doing yet. But once you do? Stop working for free.
