More than 20,000 Milwaukee County households have received FEMA assistance so far, totaling over $102 million in flood recovery aid, and counting! If you were affected by the floods, there’s still time to apply. But don't wait! The FEMA Individual Assistance application deadline is November 12 — less than a month away! There are 3 ways to apply: 💻 Online at DisasterAssistance.gov ☎️ By phone at 800-621-3362 📋 In person at a Disaster Recovery Center 🚨 Reminder: Submitting a damage report to 211 is NOT the same as applying for FEMA assistance. Even if you reported damage back in August, you still need to apply directly to FEMA to receive financial aid. For a list of locations where you can meet with FEMA representatives in person, visit county.milwaukee.gov/getFEMAhelp.

NEW: FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) teams are now deployed across Milwaukee County, providing additional in-person support for residents affected by the August flooding. DSA teams help residents apply in-person for federal assistance, identify immediate needs, share application updates, and provide referrals to additional community resources. A calendar of DSA locations and hours of operation is available and will be regularly updated at county.milwaukee.gov/getFEMAhelp. Despite the federal government shutdown, these this service and the two Milwaukee County Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) remain open and operational. The fastest way to apply is online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by phone at 800-621-3362. The deadline to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance is November 12, 2025. Learn more: disasterassistance.gov

🚨 ATTENTION: You may have been hearing a lot about the $30 million dollars in aid that has been approved by FEMA. I want to clear up a few common questions and concerns: ☑️ FEMA is accepting applications from everyone in Milwaukee County whose uninsured home or property was damaged in the early August floods. ☑️ This money is NOT being distributed on a first come, first serve basis. ☑️ Individuals who are eligible to receive FEMA assistance, will receive it – even if the total amount for all individuals tops $30 million. So don’t be discouraged. Complete the FEMA application at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362.

Two Milwaukee County Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) will open tomorrow, September 24, to assist individuals who have uninsured losses or emergency needs related to the August storms and flooding. Milwaukee County DRCs will have representatives from county, state, and federal agencies ready to answer questions and provide support every step of the way, but I want to be clear: You do not need to visit a Disaster Recovery Center in order to receive FEMA assistance. But for anyone who still has questions, needs a little extra help uploading documents and navigating the online application, or simply wants to speak to a FEMA representative face-to face…the Disaster Recovery Centers are here for you! Applying for federal assistance can feel overwhelming, but no one has to navigate the process alone. Together, we can ensure residents get the help they need and move our county closer to recovery. Governor Tony Evers
Governor Tony Evers@GovEvers·
Grateful for County Executive @DavidCrowleyWI’s leadership as we work together to respond to damage from storms over the weekend. Wisconsinites are helpers by nature. We will get through this together, and the state will continue to support these important efforts.
County Executive David Crowley@DavidCrowleyWI

I joined @GovEvers to walk through impacted neighborhoods and assess the flood damage from over the weekend. The Governor's State of Emergency declaration, prompted by my administration’s earlier action, will now allow Milwaukee County and other affected regions to coordinate with state and federal partners to deliver assistance and resources for local residents and families. The floods have brought devastation to our region. I know this is an incredibly challenging and devastating time for many of our residents, but I’m inspired seeing neighbors helping neighbors, businesses stepping up to support those in need, and the tireless dedication of our first responders and emergency management personnel. Milwaukee County is a strong and resilient community, and I know that by coming together, we will persevere. If you need assistance due to flood damage, please see the resources below: To report property damage, such as flooded basements, collapsed walls, or lightning-related incidents within Milwaukee County, please call 211. To report flooding, downed trees, or other public damage in the City of Milwaukee, please visit milwaukee.gov/Click4Action. Two Red Cross shelters are open in Milwaukee offering food, power and more, located at: - Holler Park, 5151 S. 6th St. - Washington Park Senior Center, 4420 W. Vliet St.

May is AAPI Heritage Month and Milwaukee County is proud to recognize and celebrate the important impact that Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders have our community. I’m pleased that @GovEvers signed bipartisan legislation last year requiring Hmong American and Asian American history to be taught in Wisconsin schools. Because we are stronger when we honor this rich history and culture, as we recommit to supporting and uplifting our AAPI community today and every day. Visit elevasianwi.com to learn more about AAPI Heritage Month events in Milwaukee County.

.@AmeriCorps is critical in fostering the next generation of leaders throughout Milwaukee County. I know this is true because AmeriCorps Public Allies was where I learned the foundation of community organizing and found my calling as a public servant. Simply put, we need AmeriCorps to build up stronger, healthier communities that Milwaukee County residents deserve. However, it’s clear the Trump administration and DOGE disagree. The news that AmeriCorps programs across the nation are now being terminated is not just a policy decision. It’s a deeply personal attack, leaving many without access to the services and support they rely on. Federal funding cuts toward AmeriCorps programs have real and immediate consequences, directly impacting kids, families, and neighborhoods across Wisconsin. Throughout our community, this unnecessary action will harm our most vulnerable: children experiencing homelessness, students in need of school support, people who are working to overcome addiction and substance use disorder, and folks in public service who are striving to make our communities better. Here at the Milwaukee County Courthouse, AmeriCorps members are instrumental in helping people navigate a complex legal system, making sure they arrive on time, fully prepared for their court hearings. Because of these detrimental cuts, the Milwaukee Justice Center will now struggle to provide critical information and assistance to members of the public accessing local services, further increasing court backlogs, decreasing governmental efficiency, and driving up costs for everyone. Bottom line: We need to fight for AmeriCorps—because when we invest in services, we invest in people and the future of Milwaukee County. These funding cuts do nothing to support anyone in our community. In fact, they are making matters worse in Wisconsin and across the country. 🔗 bit.ly/42EGK1N
