The Left wants to wield power and the Right wants to be free from it. What do people who want to be free from power do? They certainly don’t spend their money constructing vast ideological patronage networks for the explicit purpose of creating a vanguard who are committing to seizing political power. If Conservative donors do anything in the field of politics, they simply fund campaigns for libertarian-minded politicians who will “cut taxes” and “get the government out of their life.” Meanwhile, Leftist donors will spend vast sums of money doing nothing but molding entire generations of political activists who know how to do nothing but agitate for state power. Is it really any surprise that things continuously move further and further to the Left with time? They essentially have no real opposition, just a bunch of disorganized people who want to escape politics rather than engage in it.

Een paar maanden voor de moord op Lisa ben ik wegverhuisd uit de buurt van de opvanglocatie waar Chris Jude verbleef. Ik kon daar nooit ‘s avonds alleen over straat. Ik durfde niet meer naar de Albert Heijn te lopen, omdat ik dan langs de grote groepen starende mannen bij het COA moest. Mijn angsten bleken terecht: het COA huisvestte daar een anonieme moordenaar, die daar nooit had mogen of hoeven zijn. Na de moord vertelden bewoners met kinderen aan het Parool dat ze vanwege de vele geweldsincidenten hun kinderen niet van de kamer durfden te laten gaan. Ik vind het heel fijn om me nu veilig op straat te voelen in mijn nieuwe buurt. Kunnen jullie zorgen dat ik nooit meer vlakbij een gevaarlijk AZC hoef te wonen?
