Chancel from east to crossing #StMaryRedcliffe Bristol for #StonemasonryMonday The church is illuminated by a clerestory of vast Perpendicular pointed windows. The ribs of the vault seemingly erupting from the thinnest shafts between the windows

Beautifully carved canopied tomb decorated with finialed #Ogee separated by crocketed pinnacles. Probably one of the most common motifs in medieval church carving. Eternal light for eternal life North aisle, eastern end #StMaryRedcliffe Bristol for #MemorialMonday

One of Mouse's many ongoing gripes is that beautiful church interiors are more often than not ruined by glaring and poorly directed lighting. Not so at #StMaryRedcliffe which is consistently very artfully lit even down to the memorials and tombs #MemorialMonday. Take a bow....

@TheHistoryMouse I've seen carpet and upholstered chairs in that shade of blue in C of E churches - I wish they had toned it down a bit!

Not all churches are created equal perhaps, but at #StMaryRedcliffe Mouse got a choice, north (left) or south. Both apparently date to early C14 and they are High Gothic indeed. Mouse going to go north porch for her initial pop in for a poke

@TheHistoryMouse Waiting to see if mouse scampered past the old Pro Cathedral in Park Place. I used to live round there & was fascinated by it.

Is Mouse in Rome? All imperial and would be imperial powers resort to classical architecture to vicariously invoke the strength of ancient Greece and Rome. This is the 'Victoria Rooms' building in Bristol. Mid-C19 #TheHistoryMouseInBristol

The #WillsMemorialBuilding, Bristol. Early C20 Perpendicular-Style. Mouse doesn't find this #UberGothic style of building to her taste but then taste is by its very nature a personal thing. It looks unfinished to Mouse, like there should be another stage (it's the corner turrets)

Mouse tend to visit quite small rural churches looking for curiosities, so she not used to being in a church so splendid that you can spend a day just in the porch. The hexagonal Perpendicular north porch of #StMaryRedcliffe Bristol
