Absolutely insane prices coming out of Bassett NE yesterday! Abbott cattle broke the $6lbs mark. Thanks @TheHotBarn for covering prices live from the country instead of the board!

“Feels like they are screwing over the town. Restaurants, retail, and hotels all see a spike in business that week. Sales tax dollars add to the community.” USD canceled their annual agreement with Vermillion’s Dakota Farm Show. Article below, thoughts? youragnetwork.com/usd-cancels-an…

@ne_rancher211 You can be mad about that. I sure am. But what is arguing over an Aaron Rodger’s quote gonna do though? All
English

@TheHotBarn In fact he’s right along side me madder than hell about what Trump has done, all for nothing
English

@ne_rancher211 When has freaking out ever helped? It sucks, worse than sucks, but what would your dad or his dad do in this situation? Guarantee they wouldn’t be on a soap box bitching at anyone staying positive.
English

@TheHotBarn Im not sure how you can relax after watching the feeder market plummet over 20% in a couple days. Especially those who still have yet to sell. We are absolutely fucked
English

@StaggySteer @leereichmuth Uh yeah. Super hot. Ranchers would’ve killed for that 99.999% of ranching history. Maybe not last week.
English

@leereichmuth @TheHotBarn Conventionals under 2.30 now. “HOT” 😤

@RoosterKween “The vast majority of beef in stores is from other countries” followed by “you don’t need Mcool?” I think you answered your own question lol
English

You mean pre-modern USDA data? You want to compare beef demand to a time when I could fill up my vehicle for a $10 bill? And the data you show up with is wrong again. it’s on fresh beef demand, not total. We don’t argue with dipshits around here. if it shuts you up I’ll change my statement to “a 45 year high.
English

@TheHotBarn “Hurr durr r u a bot?” Use 1980 as the base year and you see the we’re likely just back above base today. 1998 was the trough, its dishonest to use that as the base of the index. We have not even begun to grow beef demand beyond the level it was pre-1980’s.

@Remington0409 Good thing beef demand is still at an all time high. The consumer who is fine with paying $7 for a bag of chips is fine with paying the markets current prices for gods greatest protein.
English

@TheHotBarn Want to force a lot of producers out of the market? Make beef so expensive it becomes a luxury good, out of reach to the normal consumer such that consumer perception changes.
English

@yabyreveboogob And we always will, but using it as a tool to beat the market down when ranchers are just making some profit is insane.
English

@TheHotBarn We have imported beef for years. It’s not a new thing.
English

@RoosterKween Irrelevant when beefs demand is at an all time high. There is no lack of demand at the moment. Hence the increasing prices with a decreasing herd size.
English

@TheHotBarn As a very small farmer, I understand the hard work that goes into this however I also understand that if nobody's buying my meat or veggies because they can't afford it, I'm going to be left with a lot of product and no profit. This guy's line of thinking is a bit wonky.
English

@phreatomagnetic I’m no math wiz, but $2.30 domestic beef turns into a $7/ lbs chuck roast… are you saying you’re buying beef for under a $1/lbs from other markets?
English

@TheHotBarn You're focused on the past few weeks. I'm looking at the game I've watched play out for decades. But specifically, this year, when domestic Chuck rolls were $7/lb by the trailer load, Brazilian or Australian could be had for under $4/lb
English

@phreatomagnetic Fats are going for like $2.20 right now and that’s $3 higher than the other guys? Please point me in the direction of the guys paying you to take their beef.
English

@TheHotBarn Small processor for most of my life.
I don't process a lot of domestic beef. It used to bother me that I had to buy imported to have any hope of selling my products. When the difference was $0.50/lb it bothered me. Today the difference in price is often $2/lb to $3/lb.
