I’m not one for performative gestures, but you never know who might need to hear this. So, here goes. My grandfather was our rock, our mountain with nerves of steel, forged in fire. No matter how tough things got, he never gave up. I’d like to think I’ve got some of that resilience in me. So, when despair comes knocking, I say, “Not today, …… ……” Today, if you feel like giving up, hang on just a little bit longer. Give yourself one more day. Consider this your sign from the universe.🔮✨ #motivation #alhamdulillah #strongwomen #feminism #dontgiveup #grandpa #resilience

Tanveer Hussain was driven to his death by cow vigilantes in Ramban. As if the incident wasn’t distressing enough the culprits are yet to be booked leave alone arrest. Mobile services have been suspended to stop word from spreading. But the truth is gau rakshaks enjoy institutional impunity from cold blooded murder. @dcramban @RambanPolice @DIPRRambandic @manojsinha_

While we condemn the attack on Farooq Abdullah sahab and question the security lapse, we have direct questions for the CM @OmarAbdullah Why has he compromised security of senior opposition leaders? Snatching of the house of former CM Mehbooba ji, who doesn’t have her own house, was an attempt to murder by government, yet the CM has deliberately ignored her entitlement after elections. Security is insurance in J&K, non-negotiable. When 90 MLAs are engaged in safeguarding the nation cause, security cannot be compromised. The CM must answer why Sajad Lone was served notice to vacate and @JmuKmrPolice must explain why PCC Chiefs Tariq Qarra’s security was downgraded.

That an armed assailant came so dangerously close to shooting a Z plus protectee & a former J&K CM exposes an utter security lapse. What safety then does an ordinary man stand to have here? Heads must roll. Glad to know Farooq Sahab is doing well & escaped unharmed.

A significant moment in Iran with the passing of Ayatollah Khamenei. As someone from Kashmir, we know too well what political uncertainty feels like. Praying for peace and stability. 🤲📿 #peace #middleeast #Khamenei

Today’s stupendous success of the Jammu & Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy has given the people a rare moment of joy after a long time. This victory is also a powerful reply to those forces that seek to divide our society on religious lines. The triumph was made possible by the united effort of a team made up of both Hindu and Muslim players proving once again that unity is our greatest strength. Together we rise, together we succeed, and today’s win is a reminder to the world that the spirit of J&K can never be broken .

The viral visuals of BJP leader and Assam Cheif Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reflect a dangerous normalisation of hate and intimidation. When those in power glorify violence, mock the Constitution, and signal that brute force matters more than the rule of law, they give institutional cover to prejudice against an entire community. The Indian Constitution is not a useless book. It is the only shield standing between democracy and mob rule. Treating it with contempt is not bravado, it is an open invitation to chaos. As a Kashmiri Pandit, I have seen this script before. I have seen how sustained hate, silence of institutions, and dog-whistle politics can turn neighbours into targets. What began as provocation then ended in loss, displacement, and irreversible tragedy. Today, similar signals are being sent on a far larger scale, in a country where 24 crore Muslims live with growing fear and shrinking protection. When hate is amplified from the top and accountability disappears, history warns us of where this path leads. Silence, whether political or institutional, is not neutrality. It is complicity.

In Uttarakhand the law has been turned upside down because it’s police has filed an FIR against two good samaritans Deepak Kumar & Vijay Rawat for protecting a Muslim shopkeeper from right wing goons. The police refuses to protect Muslims residents & simultaneously also intimidates those who try to step in. Sir @pushkardhami please explain is this on your directions or are you oblivious? Both indicate utter dereliction of duties in your part. @DehradunPolice

The world obsesses over why Herzog’s viral penguin marched toward oblivion. But the truth is simpler: Real potential isn't about pushing through. It's about seeing when the road ahead no longer belongs to you and daring to walk a different way before habit decides for you. #NihilistPenguin #HerzogPenguin #ChooseYourPath

Refugees do not simply escape a place ,they flee from a thousand memories, each one a burden too heavy to carry. It takes time, distance, and resilience to find a day when those memories no longer haunt them. I returned home, but countless others still yearn for a home they may never reclaim. #19thJan1990 #kashmiripanditexodus

Arbitrary terminations in J&K have been dangerously normalised. This isn’t just about the employee. Behind every “termination” is a family pushed into darkness & a form of collective punishment with entire households condemned overnight by draconian GOI policies that mock the rule of law & discard due process. This normalisation of injustice must stop.

A surgeon in China performed surgery on a patient in Kashgar city, 5000 kilometers away, while sitting in Shanghai, using a China made 5G surgical robot. The entire surgery was completed in one hour. In India, efforts are still ongoing to treat with cow dung and cow urine.

I pay a tribute to Marhoom Mufti Muhammad Sayeed Sahab on his 10th death anniversary today. A politician’s politician, within J&K’s politics skilled without any parallel in statecraft and administration, he had a distinguished career both at the center as a Union Minister and in J&K, as the founder of the PDP and a two-time Chief Minister. One might not agree with all his decisions but today isn’t a day to judge him politically and in retrospect based on those decisions. I will however share my view of Mufti Sahab from a personal perspective. I have a fond memory of a rather rare and special interaction with Mufti Sahab. This was back in 2015. I was the Spokesperson of the National Conference and wrote a weekly column that was very critical of PDP and Mufti Sahab and acerbically so, especially in the aftermath of PDP’s alliance with the BJP in J&K. It so happened that I caught a terrible strain of pneumonia while traveling back from Delhi and had to be hospitalized in Srinagar for a few days. So there was a pause in the weekly column and in the routine press statements against the CM, his government and the PDP. After around three weeks or so, I got a very surprising call from the then CM, Mufti Sahab inquiring about my sudden “disappearance”. The gesture was magnanimous and large hearted to say the least - especially coming from someone of his stature and standing and for someone so young and inconsequential in politics like me. This was my second of two personal interactions with Mufti Sahab. The first was in 2011-12 I think when a PDP leader from North Kashmir called me and said Mufti Sahab wanted to speak to me. Surprised, I got in touch over phone immediately and Mufti Sahab - in his iconic and didactic style - told me I should join the PDP and work towards grooming a constituency for myself in Srinagar if I was in fact concerned about contributing. I had returned from the US a few years back in 2009 after completing my studies and had a very idealistic tryst with the Peoples’ Conference, from which I had just resigned but I continued to write extensively about J&K and appeared as a speaker on TV debates frequently. Mufti Sahab told me he had spoken to Muzaffar Hussain Baig Sahab and wanted me to sit with him to finalize this. As asked, I called Baigh Sahab and was invited for tea at his beautiful residence at Kral Sangri the next day. He told me Mufti Sahab had spoken to him. Over tea and watching the sunset from his balcony, Baig Sahab elaborately convinced me against joining the PDP, calling it (a party he was ironically a part of) a “family mafia” (I remember the exact words) and said I should join the NC instead as that was a “far better choice”. And that he was himself “fed up”. I left his residence perplexed but never brought this up with Mufti Sahab. I never approached this topic again, and the idea died in an eventless, quiet manner. I don’t think Mufti Sahab had a sharper critic than me during his term as CM and also in the run up to the 2014 assembly elections. Yet, he was never vindictive or vengeful towards me. That wasn’t his nature. He was magnanimous in a profession and a place where magnanimity is hard to come by. And very hard to sustain. And he was driven by a palpable urge to change the lives of the people. May Allah SWT grant him Magfirat and a place in Jannat. Ameen. @MehboobaMufti @shangpal @parawahid @IltijaMufti_ @TheIrtiqaMufti @jkpdp
