My report on i24NEWS: The Next Phase of the War in Iran The strikes in Iran have entered a second phase: attacks targeting regime infrastructure and government institutions, including Basij targets and repression forces. This activity is part of a broader effort aimed at creating conditions that will weaken the regime from within and potentially enable its collapse—primarily by damaging its military infrastructure and its capabilities of control and repression. The second phase also includes new categories of targets and a geographic expansion of the strikes: beginning in western Iran, then Tehran, followed by central Iran—the region from which most missiles are launched—and now also southern Iran. At this stage there is also a clear psychological dimension: large and well-known structures familiar to the Iranian public are being destroyed. The operations against Basij forces are explicitly intended to undermine the regime’s ability to suppress protests—the message to citizens is that there are now fewer repression forces capable of harming those who choose to take to the streets. One of today’s strikes on a Basij center was carried out during a pro-government rally, in full view of the crowd. The broader psychological campaign is designed to weaken the regime from within, encourage uprising, and accelerate the collapse or overthrow of the government. In addition to destroying regime infrastructure, the tools include direct messages to Iranian citizens (both through the Mossad’s Persian-language channel and through direct messages from Netanyahu to the Iranian people), hacks of apps and television broadcasts, all aimed at creating a sense of chaos and loss of control. In Israel, officials are projecting optimism and emphasizing the military successes—this too is part of the overall psychological effort. Despite all this, there is still no clear assessment of when the regime might collapse.
