Jesus claimed to be God because He is. Many people who have come to accept the Nicene Creed and all the mental gymnastics, and new doctrine, and new terminology, have a really hard time understanding the simplicity of the Godhead in it's true nature. Three beings, all God. Not 3 persons in one substance. The whole persons idea is made up and silly.

You are again being selective and dismissing things that were written by God with the intention of being preserved in his word. If you don’t understand something, it does not mean it’s not possible. Our individual imaginations or understandings are not a limit on God. You are right we must build a cohesive understanding of the whole of the Bible. If our understanding creates contradictions within it or contradicts with it, then our understanding is wrong. But we cannot dismiss parts and prefer parts. We must build a complete picture. Jesus claimed to be God.

Another Mormon, declaring that the attached comparison between the Mormon idea of Jesus and the Biblical idea of Jesus is full of lies, offers to correct them for me and then -- surprise! -- he finds a reason to not address the supposed "lies" and blocks me. This isn't even the 10th time this has happened. This is the difference between what Mormons believe about Jesus and what Jesus told us about himself. This is one reason why Mormonism is a cult. You can' call Jesus a liar and accept the false teachings of someone else.

If you really did do your own homework, I apologize for assuming you just cut and pasted it all. Most people I talk to do. They source anti-LDS literature and don't read the texts themselves. I've seen all your arguments many, many, many times. These don't refute "Mormonism" Here we go... Nature of Jesus: The first D&C scripture you point to simply says Jesus was the Firstborn. Here's some more about that. I will make him my firstborn, Ps. 89:27. I the Lord, the first, Isa. 41:4. his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many, Rom. 8:29. the image of the invisible God, the firstborn, Col. 1:15. he is … the firstborn from the dead, Col. 1:18. he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, Heb. 1:6. To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, Heb. 12:23 The next D&C scripture says the Father has a body of flesh and bones as does the Son. You cannot deny Jesus has a glorified and resurrected body of flesh and bones. (Or are you denying that?) You must have a problem with the fact that we say the Father does as well. Here's more on that. God created man in his own image, Gen. 1:27. God created man, in the likeness of God made he him, Gen. 5:1. in the image of God made he man, Gen. 9:6. I have seen God face to face, Gen. 32:30. they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet, Ex. 24:10. written with the finger of God, Ex. 31:18 (Deut. 9:10). Lord spake unto Moses face to face, Ex. 33:11. thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen, Ex. 33:23. With him will I speak mouth to mouth, Num. 12:8. he that hath seen me hath seen the Father, John 14:9. the Son of man standing on the right hand of God, Acts 7:56. Who, being in the form of God, Philip. 2:6. You get the idea. So that's just from the first row in your table. Very biblical. Very arguable from the LDS perspective. The fabrication you made was saying we believe Jesus was separate from the eternal God. We believe Jesus was always divine (eternal God) but separate from the Father. Jesus created the universe. In fact the title page of the Book of Mormon says "And also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God" Your facts are not accurate, and this is just the first row of you table.

First, you didn’t answer my question about your dishonest claim about my work. Second, it’s a matter of historical fact that Joseph Smith declared the Bible was corrupted and no one could know what it said. It’s also a matter of scientific fact (via archaeology and textual criticism) that the Bible was not corrupted and Smith was wrong. Third, I’m certainly glad that Mormons believe the Bible to be important, but they put other works — works of extremely dubious pedigree — over the Bible, and they believe those works over it when the two contradict (and they do indeed contradict.) Fourth, I’ve shared for you in the document you complained about specific claims about Jesus from the Bible, and I believe unequivocally in that Jesus and want others to know him, to find salvation in him. I think that clearly refutes your obviously false claim about me not teaching the Jesus of the Bible. Not that you asked, but I frequently share on X that “I am a born again, Bible-believing, inerrancy-holding follower of Jesus.” I invite you to take a look at the document above and find those Mormon teachings and understand the difference between what Mormonism and Joseph Smith taught and what Jesus teaches. The two are not the same, and you can’t believe both; you must choose.

If all the scriptures in the Bible are true (an I believe they are) then seemingly contradictory ones needs to all make sense together. John 17 (as we are one), John 1 (the Word was with God), Stephens vision (Jesus standing at the right hand of God), Genesis (made in our image) has to make sense with all the "one" scriptures. They make sense when understanding they are separate beings with one purpose. I understand some of the early fathers taught this and a majority leaned more to an unimaginable God without body, parts, and passions, or a 3-persons-in-one, mental gymnastics, new doctrine (or heresy) to try to understand (or not understand) it. It's nonsensical. God is logical.

This passage is often used by Mormons to claim a difference between Jesus and God. They are indeed different. But the exclusive use of this passage and the omission of other claims by Jesus to be equal with God and to be one with God is deliberately misleading. Jesus uses the names of God for himself, forgives sin against God as if he is God, accepts worship as if he is God, and claims for himself the authorities of God. We can’t understand Jesus by only examining his statements that we like and ignoring ones we don’t understand or don’t like. He gave us a specific picture; to ignore the entire thing and choose to accept only part of it is to call him a liar and to creat a partial, false Christ.

@LadyDemosthenes @MrEncouragement Reread my reply...Jesus settles your misinterpretation in John 17:20-23 where he describes exactly how He and the Father are one. Same logic for the Holy Ghost. Trust Jesus. He doesn't lie.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.” John 1:1-4 “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” 1 John 5:7 KJV “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.” John 8:58

@MrEncouragement Hahaha. You think LDS don't believe the Bible to be the word of God. Funny. You don't teach the Jesus of the Holy Bible so you are not a Christian.

I don’t understand your issue. Are you claiming I didn’t create this sheet? I did indeed. There’s no dispute that the Biblical Jesus was a real, historical figure. The four New Testament books of eyewitness accounts of his ministry are some of the best-attested history recorded, ever. Joseph Smith claimed those books (and others) had been corrupted and changed over time. He claimed to “restore” the truth. Then archaeology came along, and uncovered more than 10,000 copies and fragments of copies of the New Testament books from early dates, and in addition, ancient writers who quoted those books in their writings were used to validate further these books, so that there is no other work of antiquity that has this much support for it’s accurate transmission through time than the New Testament — by a factor of 100 times! (The next closest is Plato’s Republic, for which we have 9 early copies, dating from around 800 years after the original.) Jesus said his word would never pass away. Joseph Smith claimed it did, meaning Jesus was wrong, a liar. Jesus was right; Smith is now proven wrong. Big faux pas for a self-proclaimed prophet!

OMG! I thought the "magic underwear" was just something taken out of context that people used to make fun or Mormons. This ex-Mormon says it is true. I'm lost at words. How is this biblical? How does wearing that underwear every day bring you closer to God? Any Mormon care to chime in on here?

Dear LDS- Quit telling everyone that Joseph is a true prophet and that the church is true. It’s very deceiving and not truthful. Do your missionaries let the innocent people know the truth? Of course not. LDS are faced with a hard fact, Either Joseph Smith is a liar, or the church is completely wrong right now. - Keep this simplified picture of facts showing Joseph lied, publicly, in a sermon/address to his own church members, then the current church admitting he actually did have plural marriages! Is that how a Christian filled with the Holy Spirit should act? Lying to his own church? Links are in the comments.
