A LOVE POEM TO THIS PLANET: “I have always felt, and I still feel today in spite of all of the issues, that the human species is like a love poem to this planet.”—Helga Ingeborg Vierich, “Gaia’s Problem Children,” Likeville Podcast E47 (February 23, 2019) @hvierich @john_f_hamer

Holy shit, this article (in an LGBT magazine no less) actually argues that it's racist and colonialist for Trump to put pressure on Iran to decriminalise homosexuality and that Iran is actually 'not that bad' when it comes to homosexuality anyway. 😂😂😂 twitter.com/outmagazine/st…
Out Magazine@outmagazine

"Rather than actually being about helping queer people around the world, Trump's campaign looks more like another instance of the right using queer people as a pawn to amass power and enact its own agenda," writes @mathewrodriguez. out.com/news-opinion/2…

@paulkrugman Conversely, when the market does well, not Trump’s doings, Obama handed over a good economy. But when stocks are down, it’s him and his incompetent administration’s fault.

Remember, when stocks go up, it's proof of Trump's genius, but when they go down, it's someone else's fault. Probably a conspiracy by the deep state's allies, the deep private sector.

@albertfinz @nntaleb Nassim’s totally right. If you ever lived as a minority in a sea of nationalist enthusiasm, you’d know that.

@nntaleb nationalism is only about recognizing and emphatizing the relevance of national identity, hystory, language, traditions, etc. Therefore, it is not a reduction in dimentionalty, but the opposite

I view both globalists and nationalists as the same crap: a reduction in dimensionality, a destruction of the variegated intermediate fractal layers between individual and humanity. Both aim at monoculture. twitter.com/nntaleb/status…
Nassim Nicholas Taleb@nntaleb

The division in politics can be summarized as between + Embedded, complexity-minded, multiscale/fractal localists (politics as an ecology/complex adaptive system) + Abstract one-dimensional universalists & monoculturalists (politics as a top-down engineering project)

@albertfinz @nntaleb Clearly you don't live in Montreal. Or Lebanon. Or anywhere that has to deal with the desperate desire of nationalists to create a monoculture.

@nntaleb A draft of my forthcoming review included these lines. I'm not sure they are accurate, but it's an honest impression. I was sorry they didn't survive the editor.

3- Current bibles: The Bible, Wealth of Nations, Das Kapital, Works by Aquinas, Montaigne, etc. They fail editorial criteria. Editors don't understand books, Academics don't get scholarship. Why? @rorysutherland : employees' objective is minimizing blame in case of failure.

2- How to make a survey work by via negativa. To assess if a book will survive, find an academic/someone who plays the system. If they say "well organized", "well written", or "original", odds are the book flops. If they say "messy", "whimsical", the book will outlive him/her.

1- Ignore surveys. Pple think they prefer restaurants 1) quiet so they can tawk, 2) roomy, 3) no line. Yet they flock to 1) loud, 2) cramped restaurants 3) w/50 min wait. Never ask pple what they want, watch what they do. Revelation of preferences. #SkinInTheGame
