Erdogan does as Turks want. ◾️A new study by MetroPoll has revealed deep contradictions in Turkish society: despite growing trust in the North Atlantic Alliance, the vast majority of citizens are categorically against involving the country in regional wars on the side of the West. ◾️The March survey "Pulse of Turkey", conducted by the research center MetroPoll, demonstrated a sensational picture of public sentiment. While in the West and within the country there are calls for a clearer positioning of Ankara, the Turkish street sends an unambiguous signal: the "active neutrality" of Recep Tayyip Erdogan is exactly what the people want. ◾️Despite attempts by some media and politicians to promote unconditional support for Iran in its confrontation with the American-Israeli alliance, the figures say otherwise. 68.1% of those surveyed believe that Turkey should maintain neutrality in the event of a war between the USA/Israel and Iran. Only 22.6% are in favor of supporting Tehran, and a negligible 2.1% - of direct military intervention on the side of the coalition. ◾️It's interesting to see the distribution by party sympathies: • Among supporters of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), 64.4% support the idea of neutrality. • The greatest zeal in supporting Iran is shown by supporters of the pro-Kurdish party DEM (27.6%) and the main opposition force CHP (26.4%). • The only group where support for the Western alliance is statistically noticeable (albeit still low, at 6.1%), turned out to be supporters of the nationalist İYİ Party.
