@TheMarkGroup

I’m concerned with influencing policy so all of us get the best possible health and social care at minimal cost from state funded, truly not for profit agencies

@TheRedbaiter Of course this will facilitate a point to point speed check and if so desired an automatic speeding ticket to add to the monthly bill 😆

“Overall, it’ll be like electricity. You’ll drive and at the end of the month you’ll get a bill and it will say you drove a 1000 kilometres this month times X amount. It might be you’ll pay a couple of tolls, and a congestion charge and then you just pay it.” Transport Minister Chris Bishop explaining how his electronic road taxes scheme will work. As he says, it will also be linked into tolling and congestion taxes. So what else can they add to it? For example, will cars be taxed at a higher rate if they’re judged to be emitting greater amounts of CO2? Even if the Nats don’t do this, what is to stop later governments of Greens/Labour doing it? You can safely bet your house that this scheme over time will be abused and added to and widened into all kinds of ideological areas. Just like your electricity bill is heading through the roof as you pay for the ideology of climate change. The ultimate objective is to destroy private motor cars and force us all onto public transport. So enjoy driving your car while you can. It won’t be long until it’s a barely affordable privilege. After that, it will be gone altogether.

@camrynpetebrown Why don't you read up about how taxpayers have been totally ripped by hospital PPPs in the UK instead of resorting to the usual knee-jerk slogans. You know very well your party didn't reveal this before the election because voters would've hated it.

What I'd just say to you is, 1 day classes will study the smooth move we made to 1st tell NZ we didn't have the money to build the hospitals we promised, causing people to protest & then telling them the only way out is privatisation. Pretty slick huh? #CoalitionOfCorrupton

@GaryPayinda Worth looking at examples of ‘public private partnership (PPP) health care failures in UK. Mayor of London believed PPP projects to be ‘a millstone round the necks’ of London hospitals. Check out the background for sound arguments against: jubileedebt.org.uk/wp-content/upl…

@Stephen_Neville @nzherald Well he did make a sensible commitment to GP referrals for radiographic assessment no longer requiring a co-payment. Would like to assume he ‘forgot’ this would apply to NP referrals too and this will be fixed down the track 😉

@CiceroMD @NZNationalParty Same should apply for all social policy; health, housing, education, etc. We’re a tiny population with resources to suit and vacillating policy positions attached to some political fancy spanning a 3 year vision isn’t going to cut it.

Whilst this is all admirable From @NZNationalParty it’s also meaningless. Shorter wait times for ED, FSAs, surgery and cancer all needs to take place in a hospital. Our hospitals are too small and falling apart. Sooner or later National, Labour, ACT and Green are going to need to realise that what we have is an infrastructure shortage. It will take more than one term to rectify. More like 6-9yrs. So, Take a few terms of government and politically ring fence health and work together. During that time build new hospitals and theatres and hire and train more staff. And only once this is achieved can these lofty ideals of @NZNationalParty and @nzlabour be achieved. Only then can health become a political football again. Sadly there is no stomach or courage for real change and so we are left with empty promises that can never possibly be fulfilled and the health system will limp along with those who cannot afford to pay private suffering the most. Note, this goes for the red and the blue team @chrisluxonmp @dbseymour @DrShaneRetiMP @drayeshaverrall

National will set key targets for our health system, so that Kiwis get seen quicker in emergency departments, faster access to cancer treatments and higher immunisation rates in our kids. Labour's approach abolished targets and has taken our health system backwards. Combined with our plans to deliver more doctors, nurses and midwives, National’s targets will help get our health system back on track.

Journalism merely repeating party utterances as if they are true is one of the most depressing things about NZ politics . And over and over and over again. Until tomorrow’s utterance

@reepRN This is why nurse education and experience are so important to the delivery of quality care.

@Jennifercarryer Agree. Prevailing GP model operates on treating sick people - some of that will always be needed but primary health care must refocus on preventing ill health. Hoping Te Mana Hauora Māori lights the way addressing social determinants of health with NPs / nurses in the mix.

I agree but yet again a long story about GP crisis but no mention of nurse practitioners. Simple solution being ignored. NPs provide same scope of service as a GP and candidates are well distributed in rural and other underserved areas.Time to focus on solutions not handwringing

@1CommonReader @chrisluxonmp I’m in the UK right now - inflation knocking on the door of 10% - public sector is suffering as a result of any +ve Tory policy intent - nurses stretched beyond their limits due to workload pressure with inadequate financial reward. Echoes of home but worse.

So, Minister Little is willing to pay for any medical doctor who wishes to train as a GP. It would be logical then (perhaps more so) to make a similar commitment to any nurse wishing to be educated to work as a Nurse Practitioner in primary health care.
