I often hear that the Philippines needs a “reset” or a new constitution. I’m skeptical. Changing the document alone won’t solve much if the same political incentives and elite behavior remain. (1/8)

@chinogaston @imadshield @joseriz34004781 @EngrCorix And how do you have a pro-PH stance when it puts Filipino lives at risk, with little chance they’ll benefit from the resources, while the main advantage goes to the US using us as part of its island chain? Aren’t u just echoing the US “military-industrial complex” line?

Take note, Philippines: As Taiwan avoids the direct hit, the pressure shifts, toward us and Japan. If we don’t assert an independent path, we’re not choosing a side, we’re choosing to be the battlefield.

🇺🇸🇺🇦🇹🇼 Leader of Taiwan's Kuomintang party Cheng Li-Wun says the government in Taiwan must learn the lesson of Ukraine, and not become a "pawn" in the US' power games.

@chinogaston @imadshield @joseriz34004781 @EngrCorix it’s strange how the goalposts shift.. China is framed as a territorial issue, but when Vietnam is brought up, it suddenly becomes about the water cannon so which is it, territory or retaliation? Its OK to give up these features as long as you dont water cannon our PCG? (2/2)

@imadshield We were doing well in the 1950s–60s, when the U.S. was rising and we were one of its earliest allies. For smaller nations like ours, who we choose to align, or not align, will shape our trajectory.

@NuryVittachi No, quite the opposite, China was trying to swallow them up and take them over, and it genuinely frightened them, so the reversed course and asked the Americans for assistance. They were very compromised until a few years ago, when they snapped out of it.

Bongbong Marcos sold his nation to Washington DC, so they could use it against China. This is an open secret. The small country now has nine US military bases.

@theAJdeleon Thai acts like a sovereign state.. it chooses alliances based on its own interests & leans into its Asian identity, keeping talent and capital at home PH behaves more like vassal, aligning blindly former colonial power, not proud being asian, losing talent & capital abroad

Bangkok is basically just Manila if Manila had a better train system, wider side walks, more efficient government, better living standards, better everything. We deserve better!

In 2016, Indonesia decided it was done tolerating illegal fishing in its waters and started sinking ships. There were no talks and excuses. And they never looked back Philippines should take notes. China’s actions need consequences

Honestly di ko gets bakit aayaw dito. Kung DDS ako, i-pupush ko pa to para manahimik lahat ng tao kung talagang inosente siya. And don’t tell me na marami namang problema ang Pilipinas na dapat asikasuhin. Tandaan niyong pinasara ang ABS during the pandemic at tuwang tuwa kayo

@marortoll In effect, the system serves the country by creating conditions that push people to leave rather than stay and build within it. (2/2)

@marortoll I believe it’s because politicians are incentivized to keep the country poor, while putting pressure to the middle class that would lead to more OFWs which mean more remittances, and many of these politicians have already secured their place within the elite. (1/2)

The PulPol Pundit - PH Politics & Business
In the end of our series on what is wrong with the Philippines, we summarize the root cause of why and explain how it happened. It's not by accident. It's always been by design with the latter evolving over time. If we don't do anything to put a stop to these practices

@chinogaston @imadshield @joseriz34004781 @EngrCorix We’re not in a position to drive China out. And while we keep antagonizing them, other claimants are quietly building stronger ties and extracting benefits. At some point, you have to ask, what happens if they align their interests and we’re left isolated?

@chinogaston @imadshield @joseriz34004781 @EngrCorix I’ve been labeled pro-China before, but have you ever stopped to consider that moving on and pursuing shared arrangements with other claimants might be the most realistic outcome for the Philippines? (1/2)
