The Philippines was given a chance to change the status quo of its rotten political dynamics, but what did the old order do? They attacked it. And what did the Filipino victims do? They became gullible and supported their tormentors. That’s how f#cked up the Philippines is.

Make no mistake- this crisis will drag for months. Rich Pinoys have a 'buffer' to soften the blow of this crisis. They can hoard groceries to fill their pantries, stock up their freezers with 6 months supply of meat. They can hoard gas/diesel. Pero mga ordinaryong Pinoy, NGANGA.

The lesson: Du30’s independent foreign policy was strategic, build strong ties with neighboring powers so they help in crises, not alienate them by serving another’s agenda. Friend to all, enemy to none.

When there was no crisis, your government projected strength by antagonizing China and Russia, anchored to a US-aligned posture. But when the crisis, shaped by that same alignment, unfolded, you turned to the very powers you once demonized for survival. 🤯

@EngrCorix As explained in Soft Power: The Means to Success in World Politics, US influenced the Philippines not through force, but through education, culture, and military cooperation, shaping generations of Filipino leaders whose worldview naturally aligned with US interests.

You think children of politicians studying abroad on scholarships are just ‘lucky’ or ‘really smart’? No, foreign interests invest in them as political favors. They know who to back and assess who can become a future asset.

@missjilliam @BrianTycangco If decades need to be cleaned up corruption, so be it. Don't you know the destruction of a nuclear catastrophe? Its not only damages the infrastructure, it poisons the land and water for centuries. It's like an irreversible cancer that eill also cripples the economy.

@imadshield @BrianTycangco But waiting until corruption is 'fixed' could mean decades more of the Philippines paying the highest electricity rates in the region, dragging down growth for millions.

The Philippines desperately needs nuclear energy. It should have been done a long time ago. One of Southeast Asia’s poorest by per capita GDP, the Philippines has the highest electricity rates among its peers in the region. Without access to cheap and abundant electricity, progress will always be a snail’s pace.

@imadshield Scholarships in Harvard is something else..you need to have brains for that.. a son or daughter of a politicians are not factor or considerations for acceptance in the scholarship..being a political clan member is just consequential.

@imadshield @BrianTycangco Vietnam faces similar governance challenges yet is moving forward wi/ nuclear. 🇵🇭 is already building better institutions: PhilATOM as an independent regulator, IAEA-reviewed roadmap, US funding for SMR tech & a 🇰🇷 feasibility study on Bataan revival aiming for 1.2 GW by 2032.

@missjilliam @BrianTycangco We don’t need to be perfect, what we need first are strong safeguards: laws that are actually enforced, so corrupt individuals think twice before engaging in corruption. Real deterrence matters. Without it, projects like nuclear power plants become far too dangerous..

@imadshield @BrianTycangco Fixing corruption & accountability is non-negotiable. No argument there. But waiting for perfection means we'll never build anything big.😭 Countries with similar challenges (eg. Vietnam) are pushing nuclear forward anyway. Otherwise we stay stuck with expensive coal/gas imports

@imadshield @News5PH Correction: poverty and survival are not the only factors that fuel the "lucrative system" of drug trade. Corrupt politicians and filthy rich are the main players.

@News5PH This isn’t just about enforcement. It’s about a cycle: poverty feeds the trade, and the trade feeds on poverty. Until that cycle is broken, the problem will keep regenerating, no matter how many are removed.

@News5PH Eliminate one, and another takes their place. Don’t eliminate anyone, and the network quietly grows. That’s why these syndicates don’t disappear, they adapt, expand, and root themselves deeper into communities.
