We need to end this "McDonald's rap" analogy. Both Kendrick and Drake are on streaming platforms and consumers have equal access to their music. If Drake closes the year with 20 billion streams and Kendrick does with 10 billion, it's not because drake makes "fast food music" it's because people are actively choosing to listen to him over the other guys. Future, Gucci Mane, NBA Young Boy, Lil Wayne have more tracks on Spotify but not more total streams, so it's not about releasing multiple songs that will generate more streams. This shows that having thousands of tracks while Drake has 556 doesn't guarantee you will outstream him. It means that the quality of 556 songs is way more than the multiple hundreds to a thousand+ tracks. Also, music is highly subjective so debating what songs are "better" than others is highly nuanced as people have different tastes and standards for "good" music. One thing we can look out for, for sure is the numbers. The numbers don't lie, Jay Z and Tupac pioneers of the genre have expressed that rhetoric multiple times. Numbers are the only objective way to gauge a subjective field without nuance or bias getting in the way. It reflects real time demand. You can call One Dance or In My Feelings "fast food music" because it's easy to digest. But the former having 2 million+ daily streams means something. You cannot say people this song 2 million times daily are forcing themselves to listen to it. This clearly shows the music is good enough. You might say those are hits so they will get more plays, but drake has not so flashy songs that have amassed hundreds of millions of streams on Spotify such as: Marvin's Room: 813,900,532 Do Not Disturb: 652,520,242 From Time: 607,261,366 Not You Too: 602,477,671 0 To 100/Catch Up: 549,571,894 Trust Issues: 660,422,772 Practice: 475,254,464 Jungle: 536,358,869 Get It Together: 433,129,017 I'm Upset: 461,918,603 9: 447,016,208 Pound Cake / Paris Morton Music 2: 333,751,164 Pipe Down: 312,812,542 The list could go on and on but these are songs with hundreds of millions of streams that aren't "flashy" or "viral hits" like One Dance, God's Plan, Work, Hotline Bling etc Also the argument of Drake is more popular is also false because as I stated earlier these artist have the same access to DSP's, marketing, advertising, playlisting and autoplays. If both have all these advantages and one has more streams than the other it means one just puts better music. Also drake releasing an album relatively every year is not the problem. As I stated earlier, more output doesn't guarantee more streams. Quality of output + quantity of output guarantees more streams. Let's assume every Kendrick song is "quality" that Drake doesn't have that his fans love to say. Why doesn't he have more numbers? • "Kendrick makes deeper songs, quantity doesn't equal quality" ❌ Other artists release more than drake and Kendrick and don't have as much as them, meaning their music isn't as "quality" as theirs. • "Kendrick doesn't release as much as Drake" ❌ Other artists release more than Drake and Kendrick and still don't have as much as streams them. So how can you say Drake makes fast food music when the stream of the quality songs are resembling the numbers of hit songs? At the end of the day: • More tracks don't equal more streams. (as proved by other artists having more tracks and less streams) • Quality beats quantity and Drake has the perfect blend of quality (as proved by outsreaming his peers with more tracks) and quantity (556 tracks is not bad for the course of a 17 year career) • Numbers reflect demand even for songs that are deep cuts not viral hits, songs that have "quality" • Drake and Kendrick both have quality, but Drake easily edges him out because his quantity carries quality along with it. Em imo is the goat but I can say that because I’m well versed in rap. Saying someone is the goat of a genre you don’t listen to may be factual yet misinformed

Again not a bad thing. Beyoncé’s country album is not a great country album as far as that genre goes but the music there is incredible as well.

@dr_pinkflamingo Genuinely think people don’t know what a classic is - or in modern music at least. A classic for the most part is work that will be remembered decades later and more importantly, discussed as a defining piece of its time. People think an amazing piece of music is a classic 😭
