@KnicksFans/Mike Brown- I’ve never seen anything like this in the history of the NBA- there is no way the Spurs can compete much less win when the free throw discrepancy is 23-6 in favor of one team- the NBA is rigged… oh wait my bad!

The Spurs outscored the Knicks by 5.4 points per 100 possessions with Dylan Harper on the court the during the NBA Finals: On: +5.4 Net Rating Off: -8 Net Rating Mitch Johnson cost the Spurs any shot at making this a competitive series not playing Harper over De’Aaron Fox.

@Spurs_Nation The irony of that statement is the pain is directly as a result of Mitch’s subpar coaching wasting an amazing amount of young hungry talent - absolute coaching malpractice

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson after a season-ending loss in the NBA Finals: “On the surface level, I don’t think anybody other than the people in that room expected us to be here. There’s a lot of good in that, and there’s a lot of pain in what just happened. Both things can be true.”

Mitch Johnson had a powerful message to the fanbase after losing the NBA Finals: "I’m glad that they’re sad. I’m glad that they get mad when we lose or want us to be better, that’s a part of being a fan. And the support, and we feel the love and the support from everybody in the 210 and across the world, we have the best fans in the world. And again, we’ve been at it for nine months, we wanted to win this series like the other ones and we didn't, and we’ll be just the same people. We’re not going to flinch, blink, waver. We’ll be here until whenever we get the schedule out and figure out our next game and we’ll be, we’ll be better."

@ByStephenM @poundingtherock Seems like Mitch might have been projecting there. Maybe the amazing young Spurs were ready but he obviously wasn’t and never knew how to finish the job obviously by his epic coaching meltdowns in the fourth of every game

@CTtheMicSlayer @spurfectblog @LVSportsNetwork I’m hoping the FO feels that emotion as well…as much as I respect the hell out of the spurs org - their greatest weakness is sticking too long with Spurs insiders even when they obviously can’t get the job done- Mitch as head coach of the Spurs is the greatest example of that

@BrettSiegelNBA Mitch is the reason the spurs weren’t ready to win a chip- plain and simple anyone who follows this team closely knows this bad ass group of young players win in spite of not because of his coaching

@JeffGSpursZone All season Mitch Johnson has tried to distract anyone who is really paying attention by blaming the youth of this team for the epic collapses- the truth is this young spurs team wins in spite of not because of his coaching

@RealTomPetrini Definitely Mitch wasn’t ready- debatable on the other guys…coach throwing his players under the bus to save his hide - definitely not very Spursian

Basketball is a simple game. Mitch Johnson over complicated it, the entire series, in three ways: 1. Exotic coverages: Brunson can’t beat you from the mid range, much like Shai couldn’t last series. Way too many traps, matchup zones, blitzes, etc. leading to the Knicks attacking long closeouts all series long. 2. Transition to build the lead, and then walk the ball up the floor and play not to lose, with the lead. There was a clock in every single game of the series where you could see the Spurs shift from fast to slow. 3. The Kornet minutes. Mitch chose a guaranteed negative 10 minutes on a game by game basis versus getting creative with his personnel. We’ve never a series more negatively impacted by a coaching staff than this Spurs squad in the NBA Finals. And it was all EXTREMELY predictable and preventable. Mike Brown was INCREDIBLE. No coach more deserving of a title than him.

Keeping Dylan Harper out of this game is simply coaching malpractice. He needs to be playing every minute he is able to in the second half, and there is no reason he shouldn’t start the second half. Fox needs to be benched.

Charles Barkley is right: The Spurs have to bench Fox. Can’t be worried about his feelings. Harper is by far the more effective guard and is playing much more poised basketball. Not sure what Mitch Johnson is waiting for. Playing thru Fox doesn’t maximize their odds of winning.
