@fasterthanlime AFAIK they do take that long, as each is run in its own process etc… there was a blog post about a new thing in 2024 edition for this, something about multiple tests in a single process

So many people want it. Anyone who didn't manage to buy the stockings, I'll write personally. I'm planning to make another batch at the end of August.

@Lucretiel I am annoyed, but also relieved that you are further ahead than me with your mental models, and share them online x) This is pretty spot on for me too!

I thought what I liked was OO but it turned out what I actually liked was was object-verb word ordering and name visibility controls.

@LizardOrman @fasterthanlime Given the complexity, it probably gets inlined and then directly allocated on the heap with box magic

@fasterthanlime I don't understand how this helps because haven't you already built the potentially huge future on the stack by the time you get there? Or does tokio somehow then store it on the stack?

@Lucretiel @payforexposure I feel that would somewhat make this fit better? I would feel like my mental model would be starting to get difficult to grasp if it auto-claims. Captures are already complex enough imo

@Lucretiel @payforexposure There was a nice blog post about „modes“ or something like that, where depending on which mode you’re in, the compiler does more or less „magic“ and I think this fits in it quite well? Sometimes I do want the „just get it working even if less efficient“ without leaving rust

Today’s spicy lukewarm take is that it’s good that you have to call `arc.clone()`.

type Arthur(working_on: gccrs | jinko);
another instance where making a 2 variant enum instead of a bool would have saved me 5 minutes of debugging. I'm sure it stacks up at some point. maybe a language without booleans makes sense 👀

@CohenArthurDev i’m willing to say that graphics pipelines are compilers, so raytracers are (part of) compilers but yeah, databases might be The Only Non-Compiler Things that we have
