This is a key missing piece to many people’s hip mobility work. There are two primary phases to muscles: Concentric (shortening) actions and eccentric (elongation) actions. It’s common to see concentric hip mobility-focused work where people are doing exercises actively working against resistance to get into a given range of motion. But rarely do we see or train the ability to control the movement PULLING us in a given range. I have found this to be really helpful for improving control of deep ranges of motion in isolated joint movements. And actually in many cases, this leads to even more range of motion at the joint. This is a key ingredient of mobility! I recommend 3 sets of 10-15 controlled reps of about 5 seconds.
