I've been watching this dog breeding community for a long time, and every year the anatomy of these dogs gets more extreme. Sometimes I'm convinced that it can't be pushed any further, and inevitably I'm wrong. When an animal grows from a infant to an adult, the body proportions change significantly, controlled by different genes and hormones that activate at appropriate ages. But these are adult dogs that have completely retained the body proportions of newborn puppies. Instead of their body proportions changing as they grow, they simply scale up instead and retain their puppy proportions. It's bizarre. Like imagine a 35-year-old with the body proportions of a newborn infant. This is fascinating and should be studied in detail..... what is the mechanism behind the growth pattern?
