The thing I've come away with over the last 15 years is that the vast majority of people who involve themselves in the progressive movement do so for the same reason people in rural America go to church or play football – because they're told they have to if they want to fit in. It's what you have to do to avoid social isolation. Progressivism does a really good job of enforcing adherence to strict rules, like organized religion does. If you want to be invited to the trivia night, you have to post a photo of yourself at a BLM rally. If you want to join our Magic: The Gathering event, you have to give $27 to Bernie's campaign. I was part of an axe-throwing league that unraveled because the league commissioner was Jewish, and one of the players tried to put up anti-Israel signs in the bar after 10/7, and the owner wanted the league to be a safe place away from that. What really has made me insane in the past few years is a lot of those people who enforced or lived by those stupid political litmus tests on social groups are no longer progressives, and now hate progressivism, because they left NYC and realized the world they lived in was a bubble.

Since 2019, I've been trying to write a novel about my experiences with the progressive movement in NYC, starting with Occupy Wall Street. I originally ended it with the waning days of the pandemic and Biden's election, but a lot has happened since then. I sat down last night, made notes, and came up with the phrase "Urban Evangelicals."

I posted about Madonna and my view of her beauty in her youth (or what others consider her lack of beauty). The strange thing about the bifurcated pro-con response was the anger. Angry, irritated, mocking "no she wasn't ur stupid" from the anti-side. This morning, the Furies Themselves have descended. The Madonna worshippers. They are incandescent with anger. How dare I say she doesn't look good? How dare I say she's tortured her face with plastic surgery? How dare I say what anyone can see? A lot of "get our queen out of your filthy mouth," too. Well, I did choose to get in the gutter with the subject matter, so I had it coming! But man. While the Madonna Fanboi Furies are the worst and most over the top, it was noticeable how many "no she wasn't ever pretty" men seemed to be not just in disagreement, but angry. @CE13025424 @Diessgo8 @MADGAGBEY Madonna did disparage her (unprovoked), but I do think Madonna realized later she was wrong and that Mariah was/is a a legend. I think she realizes she underestimated her. I also do think it’s kind of funny her son was a DJ at the recent Mariah tribute

@MDNASW1FT Do think both women became more fond of each other during the mid 90s. Apparently, Whitney winked at Madonna during Versace’s funeral and said “I know I’m Gianni’s favorite singer”.
