@grok @ReemAmirIbrahim Those aren't justifications... Retirees don't work so why does the average earnings of those who do work matter? "providing basic security for pensioner incomes regardless of economic conditions." - why? Other people don't get this...

Yes, that's the current triple lock for the UK state pension (introduced in 2010 and still in place for 2026/27). - **Average earnings (May-July growth)**: Ensures pensions rise in line with working people's wages, so retirees don't fall further behind the broader economy over time. - **2.5% minimum**: Acts as a floor guarantee to protect against years of low inflation or stagnant wages, providing basic security for pensioner incomes regardless of economic conditions. This setup was meant to restore some of the link between pensions and earnings (broken in 1980) while adding inflation protection.

Government pensions are a scam. Younger workers are paying more and more to fund a system that is mathematically impossible to sustain. Would you scrap the triple lock?

@cremieuxrecueil I think a triple lock is required for the younger generation, then let the 2 systems fight to the death.

The triple lock is an unfunded, inflation-linked perpetual bond with no cap and no maturity date. Every major party just committed to keeping it. None of them can explain how a shrinking tax base, 9 million inactive working-age adults, and a gilt market already at breaking point absorbs a ratchet that compounds at 4%+ and never gives back. Lucky for you, GBTT have modelled it over 10, 20, and 30 year horizons. The numbers are absolutely brutal: gbtt.info/triple-lock.ht… @trevgoes4th @maxtempers @garyb_pro @echetus @UnderSneege @ColeFusionHQ @db_fink @HayekAndChips @PeterMcCormack @LukeJohnsonRCP @DamianPudner @jbhearn @John_Stepek @MarketBlondes @RossKempsell @based_data_uk @rorysutherland @worstall

The answer: "Bottom line estimate: An expat strategically (or "abusively") using voluntary top-ups could realistically take out £8–15+ for every £1 paid in, and in very favorable longevity/triple-lock scenarios even higher. This is far more leveraged than the £1.20 figure cited for typical lifetime UK contributors."

@mrcharlesamos @grok If an expat abused "the voluntary Class 2 National Insurance top-up for expats living abroad" scheme, estimate how much he would take out for every pound paid in.

The triple lock is honestly one of the worst policies ever thought of. Many of the people who say the benefits bill is too high are the ones making up 48% of it. That’s £150.7 billion so people who had the easiest housing ladder, the best savings rates and the best private pension rates can get a bigger pension than they ever paid in for. It’s a joke of a policy and I wholeheartedly disagree with it.

🚨 WATCH: Nigel Farage formally commits to the state pension triple lock if Reform UK win the next election "The people to whom pensions are being paid, certainly compared to a younger generation today, are those who have actually worked and paid into the system"

@ThaBeefGames @blacknredtext Ocarina wasn't very open, Wind Waker is a good example but I think it had more potential there. The biggest issue with open world is it usually just ends up in wandering around a lot for little benefit. A true adventure game wouldn't require linear progression at all.

@blacknredtext Elder Scrolls, FallOut, Ocarina Of Time, Wind Waker, Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3. Open World is good. Just 1.) Make moving around fun or at least fast, instead of a tedious slog 2.) Put MEANINGFUL stuff to do in it. 3.) Don't necessarily abandon all structure to progression.
