If only they would think to look for targets or even whiff attacks when there's no one left like other games (including the original arcade game), they might realize they're being hit.

As for why this happens, the only theory I can think of is that enemies in this game have the same issue old Metal Gear enemies have, where they have a line of sight 1 pixel thick. In this game, enemies also freeze when there are no players left instead of walking around.

I think I might have discovered the dumbest tech in the history of beat-them-ups. In The Combatribes (SNES), when there's a single enemy, wait for them to come to you and once they stall, walk 1 pixel vertically away. Press buttons slowly until you have to leave New York forever.

In Super Mario Odyssey, many Goombas can be stacked. The limit for a legitimate Goomba stack is 30, as they will stop spawning afterwards. Manually spawning more Goombas reveals that the limit for an illegitimate Goomba stack is 200. At 201 Goombas, the game crashes.
