There was a time when our political class read literature (and even wrote it!). Now, we're happy they can read at all. It is saddening to see such lists because it is a reminder of how far we've fallen. "Name ten books" should be the first thing any candidate for office is asked.

False, obviously any racism whites experience is different from the racism blacks faced during slavery, Reconstruction, convict leasing, Jim Crow, and their aftermath/legacy, but racism against whites is still racism, and as such they can definitely experience racism like anyone else can.

Racism requires supremacist thinking embedded in social organisation. Anyone can be racist against whites (as in believe “they are racially inferior”), but a white person cannot really experience racism, in the same way a non-white person does, in a white supremacist country

That's just a criticism of people saying they believe the Bible honoring someone who plainly does not and seeing him as a pure hero rather than either a villain or a more complicated mix.

Can we criticize those honoring him here, because we think they shouldn't be honoring him? Sure. But that doesn't warrant comparing it with the gold calf in Exodus or the statue of Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel.

I don't think anyone could accuse me of being a Trump sycophant, but one recent criticism has begun to annoy me more and more, because it seems to me that it's simply false. Trump recently put up a gold statue of himself on one of his golf courses.
