because- you have a club and your name is Frank?
@ThePercyfan Just trying to square the circle of how you take the Illiad so holistically and then think "yeah powerscaling can define all of this". I really get the feeling that you and the Pokémon guy value defending your online community of like-minded powerheads over anything else. Cya!

@Frankclub5 Iwl i bore of this discussion especially considering, and i dont mean to be rude but this is my assessment, you aren't interacting honestly with my arguments. Just ruminate on how the story would've turned out if achilles and zeus were weak. It would be a very different genre

@ThePercyfan How does grief powerscale? And don't you find it funny to be debating his character on the condition of his power-level when what most people know about him is his weak spot? Again I don't mean to chastise you on your perspective. Just illustrating how it dulls character critique

@Frankclub5 My argument concentrates on one point: The story simply would not play out the way it did if Achilles was weaker than Ajax or Hector/if Zeus was equal to the other gods. Hence the power scaling is important to homer, because he needs it to play out this way

@Frankclub5 Dont get me wrong, there are great Greek stories about topics other than battle. Hecuba is about anger too, but she expresses murder through treachery. But, by ignoring the importance of Achilles' strength you are ignoring the source of his pride and also the consequences of it

@Frankclub5 Furthermore Homer is constantly hyping up Achilles as the only one who can end the trojan advance, because he is that much STRONGER in comparison. Even his quasi-divine rage is only a way to activate that untold power capable of winning the war.

@Frankclub5 Hera knows that there is simply no way to physically stop Zeus after he has decided something, and so has get Hypnos and Aphrodite's (somewhat) help. She uses this indirect approach only after Zeus stops her and Athena from intervening in the fight with a direct physical threat.

@Frankclub5 "It's being completely made up by the fans" is such a reductive way to look at things. Zeus's lightning is a plot device being employed by homer to explain why the gods are not helping the Achaeans, because they are scared of his power. This is his strength compared to theirs

@Frankclub5 Do you think the plot of the Iliad would exist if Achilles was not stronger than everyone else or if Zeus was not much more powerful than the other gods? Do you honestly believe that Homer wastes so much time on talking about their superiority only for it not to mean anything?

I’ve been following the discourse from a distance, but there’s no serious writer who considers powerscaling an actual thing to consider when creating characters or crafting a story.

humans outwitting Greek Gods bc they cant directly beat them is powerscaling Gilgamesh wouldnt be great if just anyone could beat the beasts he did, thats powerscaling Moby Dick being more intelligent than a normal whale therefore making it harder to kill is powerscaling
Kirby 🏴‍☠️@comicskirby

Powerscaling is not engaging with story. It’s using minor details and fun facts to make an argument for a hypothetical scenario that you made up in your head.

Are we just gonna ignore the training Po went through? Not only that, but each of his technique used in this fight were foreshadowed the entire movie. This is EXACTLY why power scaling should matter, because it makes all of the effort to earn that power matter. To suggest otherwise is to make the entire process meaningless in the end and it makes the person viewing the medium less likely to both care or get immersed as a result.
John ➃@jhon_lawrence1
