Today, on the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, we recognize that for millions of people around the world, simply existing openly and honestly still comes with risk.
2SLGBTQIA+ people continue to face discrimination, violence, political scapegoating, and exclusion, including here in Canada.
Across North America and around the world, we are watching a coordinated effort to eradicate human rights, erase identities from public life, censor inclusion, and turn transgender and queer people into political targets for personal or electoral gain.
We should be unequivocal in rejecting this.
Our identities are not controversial, our existence is not a culture war, our humanity is not up for debate.
Every person deserves the freedom to live openly, safely, and with dignity, without fear of violence, harassment, discrimination, or governments willing to weaponize prejudice for political power.
And while hate may be loud, it will never be stronger than the millions of people who continue to stand together in defence of equality, human rights, and the fundamental belief that every person deserves to belong.
Today is a reminder that silence helps intolerance grow, visibility matters, active and bold allyship matters.
And to every 2SLGBTQIA+ person reading this:
YOU are not alone, you are not wrong for who you are, and there is nothing shameful about living as your authentic self.
