The singular problem in America is the decline of character in Republican political leaders. In prior eras we had Republican Presidents who corrupted the DOJ to attack their political enemies, but back then we had Republican leaders who stopped it because they cared about their country more than their party.

There are some material differences. 1. A U.S. attorney resigned rather than charge Comey because the case was crap. 2. Trump ordered the prosecution anyway. 3. He hired a sycophant to do it. 4. She was briefed on the weakness of the case. 5. And she still went after him.

I don’t know if James Comey is innocent or guilty, but I do know that when the Biden DoJ indicted Trump aides Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon, the WP and NYT treated it as straight news, not as Biden going after his opponents. But now, it’s all about Trump getting his enemies.

That's vastly different from Trump, who ranted about the injustice of even investigating him from 2016 to present, even after a jury handed down a guilty verdict on 34 charges. But evidence has overwhelmingly been Trump's enemy these past ten years. He fires people who provide evidence because the evidence is never on his side.
