6 yrs ago hospitality closed their doors, many never reopened, lots still carry debt from ‘bounce back’ loans. I’d argue that the energy crisis that followed was worse than Covid as no support was given. You can understand why businesses are now hugely concerned about energy.

It’s now a good few years since I first started saying that a VAT cut has to be the priority ask of the Gov with so many people saying it just won’t happen…Germany have just done it, Ireland recently did it. It’s possible and it’s the single thing that can help all hospitality.

@leonburton @UKHofficial @UKHospKate @allen_m_simpson A hospitality VAT cut is being introduced in Germany in January from 19% to 7% thanks to successful lobbying and consistent messaging. Too many trade bodies asking for too many different things has been our undoing in the UK.

Can we talk about pubs with kids’ play areas for a second? Having one doesn’t mean we’re a free-for-all creche. Ours is a struggle with kids vandalising it and parents thinking “sorry” cuts it! Maybe it’s not the play area that’s the problem – it’s the parenting. #PubLife #HospitalityTruths #NoDayWasted
