The Fourteenth Amendment defines citizenship through birth or naturalization, and its later protections apply to persons. It clearly protects the born woman. It does not clearly define unborn life as a constitutional person. A pregnant woman already holds constitutional rights. Whether unborn life holds constitutional rights remains contested. The only undisputed constitutional rights-holder in the pregnancy is the woman whose body the state seeks to govern.
Dobbs overturned Roe because the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion. But that conclusion does not turn the pregnant woman into a legal blank. If the state claims power over pregnancy, it must still justify that power against the rights of the person already before the law.

I still remember the first time I saw this chart.
Something inside me died that day.

@grok Please summarize the essay. Pay extra attention to "The Hardest Question: When Does Life Begin?"

The Constitution gives the people the power to choose representatives. It does not give any temporary majority the power to erase constitutional limits. America is a republic with democratic elections, not direct majority rule. SCOTUS exists precisely so the Constitution is not rewritten every time political passion changes direction.

@TheRaisingApe @briannalyman2 My side are Libertarians.
We lost all the presidential elections.
Trump also failed to get 50% of popular vote. (49.8%)
I define democracy as the people voting for REPRESENTatives, who listen to and serve ALL their Constituents, but in this gerrymandered shitscape…
English

We’ve now hit the “we need to abolish a constitutional branch of government because we didn’t like their decision” stage of saving democracy
John Pavlovitz@johnpavlovitz
The Supreme Court is a threat to Democracy.
English

How do you define democracy? Your side lost the last presidential election and did not even win 50% of the popular vote. Democracy cannot mean “my side rules when it wins, but SCOTUS is illegitimate when it reads the Constitution differently.” The Court’s job is to interpret the Constitution, not follow the passions of the moment.
English

@TheRaisingApe @briannalyman2 Ummm… I’m going to go with 1789.
Yes, they feared DIRECT Democracy, so they locked it in a Balance of Powers, and left MOST of the power to the States and the People.
But it’s still Democracy. Of By For the People.
Crippling Congress and SCOTUS doesn’t help US.

@Lily4Liberty We've been "tolerant" of the wrong things.
We've made "concessions" to appease evil.
Acquiescing to evil only makes it stronger.

Does she have a point? We did that to ourselves.
Our foreign policies, especially open to China, the largest totalitarian regime has serious consequences after the decades of their infiltration.
Janet Ocean@janetocean70
@Lily4Liberty America and Americans deserve everything China does to us... Zero SYMPATHY. China can destroy America without ever firing one shot. China can kllll 250 + million Americans AND NEVER LOSE ONE CHINESE PERSON, AND LEAVE 10O% OF USA INFRASTRUCTURE INTACT. COMPLETE TAKEOVER
English

@Lily4Liberty It is very likely to be a fake account controlled by Chinese government. They will try everything to stop you from talking. I always block them.

@TheRaisingApe @Lily4Liberty The constitution was never written for niggers

@AntiWokeMemes As long as women are free to choose, it doesn’t bother me. The problem starts when they have no choice.

@Sofia50020Sofia A lot people actually pay $8000 to never set foot to NY.
English

@jackvlloyd Socialism is the transition pitch; communism is the fantasy destination. The promise of a perfect society draws people in, then socialism gives the state the power to destroy them on the way there. Capitalism is better because it lets people live.

@askaya Guys want to take the second girl out and party with the first.

@albertaNDP “No taxation without representation.” This slogan never gets old. If Canada gave Alberta political representation equal to what it contributes, Alberta would have far less reason to question its place in Canada.

@socratesccost @LizaRosen0000 Islam is not the enemy. Radical Islam is. Peaceful Muslims are already under pressure from extremists. When you tie them together, you push potential allies into the same box as the radicals.

@LTYokota Welfare can become political fentanyl. Once people depend on it, they are hard to take off it.

🔴👇 This is what happens when leftists rule a country.

As socialism never works, the left always follows the same path. Always, no exceptions. At which stage of the path is your country?

@quarktalksss I stopped using Chinese in public. The Chinese-language information space is too polluted by CCP narratives, and I do not want to think inside their cage.
English

@4thOfJuly365 Modern “liberalism” defends power against the individual. Classical liberalism meant free speech, individual liberty, and limits on government. That word was hijacked, and losing it was a tragedy.

@RealJamesWoods Don’t let them shame people into silence. I want the full truth on record. I have questioned those numbers since day one. How did he get that many votes?

@JohnSlaw99 @crusade_enjoyer Exactly. The Constitution does not give the government ownership over the human body. If the text does not clearly settle abortion, the state should not pretend it has unlimited power to control it.
English

@TheRaisingApe @crusade_enjoyer The 14th Amendment does not explicitly mention abortion, as it was ratified in 1868 to address citizenship and civil rights for formerly enslaved people.
