@MarkZinno I’m a Top Gun fan going back those 30 years. Couldn’t wait for Maverick. Watched it and didn’t really like it. Too over the top (stealing a F-14, seriously?). Realized I need to put it in its proper place - fun film, not great film. Wish it was great, but it’s just fun.

Hot take: Finally just watched Top Gun: Maverick. It’s was not good. Much similar to Happy Gilmore 2, tried bring back too many old vibes that fell short. Some flight scenes were cool. But thoroughly unimpressed with the movie. It’s why sequels 30 years later just fail.

@JimLincoln1517 Properly distinguishing law/gospel is the utmost needed skill for a pastor. When you hear a pastor with that skill, it stands out. And when you hear that preaching consistently, you can never go back. Make Walther’s “Law and Gospel” popular among pastors.

There are hundreds of Bible teachers who handle Scripture more faithfully than John Piper, John MacArthur, and Paul Washer.

@JRamEnjoyerr It’s the most frustrating thing in the world to watch as a fan. Absolutely NO reason to reach and put the ball at risk, but the player wants to make a big play and costs his team (and fans) dearly.

@mentallyumoored @YourCalvinist BTW, I like your call out to liturgy. A good liturgy uses God’s words, keeping man’s words to a minimum. And communion and confession and absolution are just as important in a service as the sermon - keeps everything balanced.

@YourCalvinist A simple 15-20 minutes sermon is sufficient. Of course, without liturgy, what are you actually left with? “Contemplative spirituality”.
