This mass christening tradition was initiated by the Patriarch in 2008 to improve the country’s demographics. Interestingly, conservatives who attend church annually have worse mental health than those who never go, and liberals who attend monthly feel worse than those do so annually. Thesis: Attending church once a year soothes liberal consciences but makes conservatives feel guilty that they aren’t attending more often. Monthly attendance makes liberals realize their political views conflict with Christian teachings and brings them cognitive dissonance. Liberal weekly churchgoers attend denominations that reinforce their political beliefs (TEC, PCUSA, ELCA, PCUSA, UM, or UCC, etc.).
