Biggest reasons why PhD applications are being rejected in 2026. You are connecting with the professors at the level of research topics, while they expect you to connect with them at the level of RESEARCH GAPS. Before you make your next application, ensure you’re not repeating these deadly PhD mistakes. DM me “Offer” if you want my premium mentorship to ace your applications this year.

Elon Musk's advice to young people: "I would say one thing is to err on the side of optimism, to be optimistic about the future. I think it's better to err on the side of being optimistic and wrong than pessimistic and right, your quality of life will be much better. I would urge people to be excited about the future. I'm excited about the future like I'm confident the future will not be boring. Read a lot of books, try a lot of things. Just enjoy life, but like, working is also part of enjoying life."

Instead of writing a Statement of Purpose that talks about your childhood passion, try this: 1.Identify 2 to 3 specific papers published by the potential supervisor in the last 3 to 5 years. 2.Find the limitation section or unanswered questions in those papers. 3.In your SOP, propose a small, realistic extension of that exact work. Not a brand new grand theory. A continuation. This signals three powerful things: ✔ You have read their work carefully ✔ You think like a researcher ✔ You reduce their risk Another overlooked strategy: send a short research brief before your formal application. Not a CV. Not a transcript. A one page idea note tailored to their lab. Professors rarely receive this. It stands out immediately. And please stop sending generic cold emails. If your email can be copy pasted to 20 professors, it will be ignored by 20 professors. Instead, write this: “I noticed in your 2023 paper on X that you highlighted Y as an unresolved challenge. I have been working on Z, which might offer a complementary approach.” That one sentence can open doors. Also, funding often follows projects, not students. Track funded grants in your field. Look at newly awarded projects. Reach out early, even before positions are advertised. The hardest part of applying for a PhD is not rejection. It is self doubt. The silence. The waiting. But remember this: supervisors are not looking for perfect candidates. They are looking for reliable collaborators. DM me “Collaboration” if you want to work with me on curating award-winning applications ✈️
