This HR Derby format is a winner; it gives the fans so many more opportunities to get involved. What a finish by Walker

I dunno man, don't tell me you care about the draft if the freaking commissioner can't even pronounce the FIRST PICK'S NAME RIGHT

Zack Wheeler’s HOF case will be an interesting one. The JAWS list makes it look unlikely as he sits at 40.6. The average JAWS for HOF pitchers? 61.4. But by those standards, almost no one on the pitching side would make it anymore. Standards will change. As @mike_petriello writes, if you look at the best pitchers through every 7-year span, those guys usually make it. 2018-2024’s best pitcher? Zack Wheeler according to fWAR & bWAR. 2019-2025’s best pitcher? Zack Wheeler. 2020-2026’s best pitcher? Zack Wheeler. Probably one of the most underappreciated players of our time, but don’t be surprised if he ends up in Cooperstown.

I don't know if Zack Wheeler's an All-Star. But I do know that a year and a half ago, I argued we might have to start thinking about him as a Hall of Famer. --> mlb.com/phillies/news/…

In a series where the #Yankees need (at least) a split, relying on their best defensive lineup will be crucial. The #Rays thrive at the Trop, and their game plan is to put the ball in play and cause chaos. The Yankees can't hope to outscore them given their recent offensive struggles and injuries. I did a deep dive in how sustainable this Rays approach might be, but we'll see them go against an elite arm today
Hucky | The Seam@TheSeamBaseball

In an era where everyone's chasing slug, the #Rays are chasing chaos. Baserunning + contact are the foundations of their offense, but can that succeed against quality and/or experienced pitchers they'll see in October? New piece live on The Seam!🔗:open.substack.com/pub/theseambas…

I'm still not sold on him -- the Rockies quietly had the 8th best offense in June (by wRC+) and the Blue Jays, for their struggles this year, don't strike out against RHP. The sinker command is so important for him and if he has that, he might be fine, but it's been on and off the last few starts, which scares me

Today's TunnelVision card: Emmet Sheehan, #Dodgers The shape pairings between the changeup/fastball and changeup/slider are elite, and the FF and Slider tunnel nicely as well. Results-wise, the change-up has the lowest SwStr% of his career this season, and I need to do a deeper dive into the pitch location as it should be playing nicely off multiple offerings

Introducing: TunnelVision Tunneling has been a concept for years now, but we don't have a great way to quantify it. My first pass at working to address what @PitchingNinja made mainstream and @baseballpro started to quantify in 2017. Live on The Seam: open.substack.com/pub/theseambas…

The #Twins bunted with runners on first and second no outs in the 5th inning They have first and second no outs with the 9 hitter up in 6th and the #Yankees didn’t seem ready for the bunt

@JDSportsCards4 @PitcherList I would! I really like Cantillo, but would rather have Tolle and as good as he's been, Aranda wouldn't be a deal breaker for me and would look to replace him with a Luis Garcia potentially on the waiver wire

Today's TunnelVision Card: Hunter Greene, #Reds He makes his 2026 debut today and gotch his slider and splitter tunnel extremely nicely off his four-seamer from a geometric perspective. The splitter, followed by the slider, has the best increase in outcomes, but I wonder if this is driven by the lack of frequency of the pair

The #Yankees depth both position player (Judge, Stanton, Grisham just returned, Dominguez missed time) and pitching wise (Schmidt, Cole's return, Rodon missing more time, Fried, Warren's struggles with lefties, LaGrange's injury) is really getting tested
Jon Heyman@JonHeyman

With Carlos Rodon (elbow inflammation) now on the IL, the Yankees may have to seriously consider perusing the starter market. Bullpen and catcher had been considered their main needs.

Today's TunnelVision Card: Logan Webb, #SFGiants When Webb needs a whiff, he should be looking to throw his four-seamer and sweeper, and potentially follow that up with a sinker. One thing I want to dig deeper into is the location of his changeup relative to his cutter and four-seamer. The geometry is above average, but the results are lacking, especially in the four-seamer/changeup pair

Today's TunnelVision card: Chase Burns, #Reds The fastball/slider combination is his bread and butter, and the geometry lines up in the top 25%. Nobody's better at generating whiffs on a slider when it's following a fastball Some new updates to the model: Count-Specific constants, considering Stuff and more!

FWIW: Cashman might've seen this outcome as a low percentile probability since he was so young at the time. Caleb Ferguson was a nightmare for the Yankees, but they've typically done well when it comes to pitching prospects, even in deals from the Dodgers where they flipped Joey Gallo for Clayton Beeter, who ended up being key to getting Amed Rosario
