Fable: The Lost Chapters: - Better story - Better characters - Better gameplay Fable II: - Introduction of jobs - Introduction of the dog - Better real estate management - Lets’s you choose Male or Female - Introduction of cooperative play The first two Fable games are special, and honestly it’s the second game that receives more praise. Ultimately, that makes sense. Fable II introduced several new series staples, was sold to an audience whose platform had a much higher install base and let you play online with your friends. There’s also the preference some had for the more industrialized feel of the sequel, with its introduction of guns over the original fairytale setting of the first. While others like myself would have preferred the series stayed firmly rooted in that earlier fantasy time frame. To me, I have always felt that the story and characters shine much brighter in the original game. The gameplay, while less refined is also more unique. Fable II’s is streamlined in a way that’s fun, but rarely feels different. Luckily, it feels like Playground’s Fable is trying to pull all of the best aspects of both. We return to the fairytale/fantasy setting, the characters look truly inspired and the gameplay has more depth than Fable II’s one button approach. Having said that, Fable II’s iconic expansion of the real estate economy as well as the job system is back in full effect. Unfortunately, there won’t be a return of man’s best friend. There’s a lot to look forward to in the new Fable game. I think now really is the time to make the audience for this franchise much larger. As far as Fable I and II are concerned, they’re both classics and you cannot go wrong with either.
