Today, a gunman opened fire on passing cars along Memorial Drive in Cambridge before he was shot by a responding Massachusetts State Police trooper. The gunman, 46-year-old Tyler Brown, was already on law enforcement’s radar. His photos were distributed after his parole officer reported to police that he had made suicidal statements. In 2021, Brown was sentenced to 5–6 years in state prison followed by probation on a murder charge. He was also ordered to undergo mental health evaluations and treatment.
