Very happy to share our new study defining the ontogeny of Thetis cells and the developmental cues that shape their early-life wave of differentiation. nature.com/articles/s4158… Beautiful work led by exceptional @HHMI Gilliam fellow @YoselinAPI and @MSK postdoc Tyler Park 🧵 1/

Over the last decade, computational oncologist Dr. @bengrbm has tried to shed light on the innate immune system and how it affects cancer cells as they evolve. One important aspect is a phenomenon called “viral mimicry,” caused by repetitive DNA sequences. Now Dr. Greenbaum’s lab, in collaboration with an international team of researchers, has developed a mathematical model to quantify viral mimicry based on methods from statistical physics, machine learning, and the dynamics of evolution. “A better understanding of what activates the innate immune system can help us figure out how to improve immunotherapies,” says Dr. Greenbaum. Thank you @MSKCancerCenter for highlighting our work on #viralmimicry in our genome, its evolution, the selective forces on it, and its potential role in cancer. A years long collaborative effort with @sunsiyu1 @stephen_martis @decarvalho_lab @petr_sulc & many great colleagues!

MSK researchers are trying to understand how the immune system senses cancer in order to make better #immunotherapies. "If we can figure out generally what the immune system is sensing — and how it affects how cancers grow, spread, and adapt," says @bengrbm, a computational biologist at MSK. "We will have a much clearer idea of how we can intervene therapeutically." Learn more: bit.ly/4ccDxJK

I am moved by the passion and expertise of the remarkable team at the Olayan Center for Cancer Vaccines (Olayan CCV) and was excited to celebrate their continued work at the Olayan CCV Open House. The standing room-only event brought together @MSKCancerCenter cancer vaccine leaders to discuss their pioneering precision cancer vaccine solutions, which have shown great promise in stopping tumors from growing or spreading, eradicating cancer cells that remain in the body, and preventing cancer recurrence. I am confident that their work will have a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals affected by cancer. This is a truly exciting moment for the future of cancer care.
