Ok, former US Navy officer and I’ll explain:
- If you believe the 12-14 month repair claim you are naive. That repair timeline is associated with the repairs post-deployment and is most likely taken out of context. And that timeline is typical of an aircraft carrier after a long deployment.
- Firefighting on an aircraft carrier is divided between fires associated with fires on the flight deck or hangar bay versus fires throughout the rest of the ship. Each type of firefighting is different and complex.
- Warships do train to handle all types and sizes of fires. It’s a constant effort and hours of practice. Yes, the US Navy has had a couple of incidents that left a mark (USS Bonhomme Richard most recently) and as a result, firefighting has been emphasized in a variety of situations and environments.
- The 30 hours of damage control for a laundry room fire reported in the news was indicative to a good size firefighting effort coupled with the associated cleanup from fire. I seriously doubt the fire raged for 30 hours. Fires on ship are not rare and because of how warships are constructed and arranged can lead to damage in surrounding areas.
- The cause of the fire and assessment of the damage control efforts will be done. Those reports can be requested via FOIA after the investigations are completed and endorsed. So no need to make any more assumptions.

please explain how a fire in a laundry room, with all of the fire fighting equipment and firefighters on board, because, you know, it's a fucking warship that trains for shit like this, caused damage that will take 12-14 fucking months to repair I will wait

Let's make this really clear -
There are about 15,000 total combat sorties flown against Iran. Zero aircraft have been lost in combat and no pilots have been taken prisoner.
For comparison - Gulf war One by this time in operations the Allied forces had flown 40,000 missions, lost 25 aircraft to combat and about 15 pilots were POWs.
You whiners out there are really pathetic.

F-18s have been doing low level gun runs.
We lost 75 aircraft in desert storm. Serbia took 12 weeks. You guys have no idea what’s involved in a sustained air campaign.

This continued expenditure of scarce standoff munitions plus the F-35 incident gives me the strong impression that claims of air superiority are wildly overstated
