@gridmaster60 Thanks Michael - just a bit of tidying up to do on them, then ready for battle.

4 RTR coming along nicely, ready for the Arras 1940 game in a couple of weeks. Just need to finish up the Matilda Is then give them all a dark wash.

Thought I'd tart the lasagne up with a layer of baby spinach. The kids are now roundly berating me for adding 'napalm lettuce'.

@PaulEmbery @andrewgadsden Both of our kids are in their early 20s and neither of them drink. It's just not their thing. The younger generations would rather have a takeaway delivered and watch trash TV/Doomscroll

When I was growing up, pubs would often be rammed until closing time (not so much during the week, but certainly at weekends). The bell for “last orders” would usually spark a rush to the bar. These days, even the most popular pubs seem to start emptying out around 8.00-9.00pm, including on Fridays and Saturdays. Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon? Is there a reason for it?

Helmsley Castle. Started in 1120, the castle was built on an outcrop of rock on the north bank of the River Rye in North Yorkshire. Survived the Wars of the Roses but slighted in the Civil Wars. Still a significant castle worth visiting. balkandave.blogspot.com/2026/03/helmsl…

Just for the sheer balls of it, never forget 'The Greatest Raid of all', which took place on this day in 1942. Today, I shall raise a glass to the raiders of St Nazaire.

@HistoryBowsh Knew about the Sittang Bridge and the nightmare surrounding it due to @The_AndyJohnson s novel but the Kwai bridge had to win if only because of Alec Guinness

Just ordered a pile of 28mm Matilda I and IIs from 1st Corps Miniatures. After the success of the Seelöwe Nord gaming weekend, the Mercian Miniatures group want to do Thunder in May next. First up is going to be a BEF counter-attack at Arras scenario. Never painted tanks before.

A quiet, unassuming spot at the top of my mum's road, but this is where they strung-up Dick Turpin, back in the day.

On this glorious sunny morning, it's back to the Danelaw to visit the family, both sides of which have lived, loved, and died there for hundreds of years as far as I can establish. DNA suggests far, far longer. Home.
