Watching some SNP politicians tie themselves in knots over whether they can support England is genuinely amusing. It's a football match. England are our next-door neighbours and a fellow Home Nation. If Scotland were in that semi-final, I would be wearing your shirt, waving your flag, and cheering for you. Argentina wants the Falklands. They sing about beating England "for the Falklands," and this is bigger than football. British people should stand together. We share these islands, we share history, and we share a future.

Here’s SNP MP Lara Bird gleefully saying how she was supporting Norway and Mexico when they played England in the World Cup. As a Scot, I find this mentality embarrassing. As Scotland are out of the World Cup, I hope England win the tournament.

@JamesMelville @jimmytwhu I’m Welsh, and I see all this hatred towards the English from Scottish and Welsh nationalists. They definitely don’t speak for me, or represent me in any way. They’re actually embarrassing. I too hope that England win just to piss off these racists.

This is shocking. At an EU Foreign Affairs Committee meeting, Lynn Boylan lamented that it was “a pity we can’t use our own language.” When it was pointed out that she could, in fact, speak Irish, she backtracked almost instantly: "I wasn’t prepared, so I’ll use English."
