@The_Fly54 @12hillcub @TThom56 @getnickwright @FTFonFS1 I watched it all. Did you watch? Magic averaged 14 apg when Kareem averaged 20ppg. Something about your narrative doesn't quite add up. But you got keep those Bird hypotheticals coming, because actual results don't hold up to Magic.

I (admittedly) care about lists more than most, and I get irrationally upset at how many folks casually throw around “Top 10 All Time” and use it to refer to ~15 players. So, inspired by Jokic, I made this. A nice tiered list of 22 NBA legends, and where each is in that debate.

@True_Legend_34 @12hillcub @TThom56 @getnickwright @FTFonFS1 Still going? Yes its easy to rack up those assist totals when you are feeding the Finals MVP, who happens to possess the most unstoppable shot ever. (I'm talking about Kareem and his sky hook since I know you didn't actually see any of this and are just looking up stats.)

@bostonradio I know a season ticket holder. The annual increases in ticket prices have priced out a lot of fans i think. Also everyone watches the Jumbotron and in game entertainment. Those games in the 80s you were there to watch basketball-no distractions. God do I miss it.

@NBACobwebs I was at this game. Reggie came out on fire. When he collapsed no one in the building knew what happened. Now it would be all over social media. Such a different time.

April 29, 1993: The Celtics' Dee Brown with a pair of blocks (and one goaltend) against the Hornets during Game 1 of their Eastern Conference First Round playoff series in Boston Garden. Boston defeated Charlotte, 112-101.

On this date in 1990, the Celtics crushed the Knicks 157–128 in Game 2, setting the all-time playoff scoring record 🏀🔥

@oldskoolbballx I thought of this last night too. Supposedly the Dr said he was done, he had a concussion and a fractured cheek bone. He turns his back and Bird runs out of the room and back to the court.

Wemby hitting his head on the floor reminded me of what happened to Larry Bird against the Pacers. It was almost the exact same thing in the 1991 first round. Bird came back in the second half and turned the Pacers upside down.

@bstonercpa @TheSports_Shift @braves2430 Magic walked through the door with a top 5 All time player already on his team (Kareem). He wasnt even the best player on his own team until 1986 or 1987. Never understood the 5 vs 3 titles argument against Bird.

@TheSports_Shift @braves2430 For me, Magic. In the 1980s each won 3 reg season MVPs, 3 Finals MVPs, Bird the better scorer, Magic the better playmaker. They both had stacked teams in those years, but Magic won 5 titles, Bird won 3, and in head to head in the finals, Lakers beat the Celtics 2-1.

@LarryBirdDaily This is the single best play that I have ever seen in 40 years of watching basketball. Danny Ainge said it best-so many players give in mentally and accept defeat once that ball goes out of bounds. This is the definition of mental toughness as a basketball player.

My grandma warned me about the 5-year stranger theory and I’ve never seen people the same since; She said: In five years, most of the people you see every day will probably be strangers again. The coworkers you eat lunch with. The neighbors you wave to. The people you twist yourself into knots for just to keep things “easy.” They’re not gone. Just… no longer part of your everyday life. That’s just how life moves. People come in. People move on. And you don’t really get to choose who stays. When that truly sank in, I started thinking about how much energy I’d spent trying to be liked. How many times I said yes when my body was telling me no. How often I made decisions based on who might be disappointed later. And I kept wondering for what? If so many people are only here for a chapter, why do we build our lives around keeping them comfortable? So here’s your reminder: You’re allowed to put your energy into what actually matters. You’re allowed to build a life that feels good to you even if it doesn’t make sense to anyone else. Because in five years, they might be strangers again. But you’ll still be here.

@td_nash Pretty simple. It's Larry. Magic wasnt even the best player on his own team the 1st half of his career (Kareem). Larry Bird was the best player on the Celtics from the day he arrived until the day he left.

More proof that the Lakers NEVER gave a rat’s ass about the Minneapolis history of the franchise until it was convenient — so they could try to claim some sort of “legacy parity” with the #Celtics in terms of championships.😂 Buss’s team letterhead stationery only had LA titles.

@YvanMontgury @sixers @OJPhilly @PeterVecsey1 @WiltStats @WiltCArchive Again, the Lakers retired George Mikan’s number a mere 66 years after he retired, 17 years after he passed away!

At this point in his career, Larry Bird was basically held together by tape and painkillers. His back nerve injury had forced a two-month layoff, and he was also dealing with achilles and thigh problems during the game. Yet he still played 54 minutes and produced one of the last masterpieces of his career. With 2 seconds left, Bird drilled a 3 to force OT vs the Blazers then finished the marathon with: 49 PTS / 14 REB / 12 AST / 4 STL Boston beat Portland Trail Blazers 152–148 in double OT. One of the last great Larry Legend performances.

Los Angeles Lakers claim 5 rings from a different city. That occurred from 1949-1954. They didn’t claim them until the 1980s after Magic’s Lakers were going for their 5th ring when they realized they can use them to “close the gap” with Boston They didn’t retire Mikan’s number who was the catalyst of the Minneapolis teams until 2022. That’s shameful
