@FloWritesCode SwiftUI is for prototyping. Not even Apple internally uses it. So the move back to UIKit is just logical.

The amount of people supporting this (despite it being a joke on April fools day), tells you a lot about the current vibe in the iOS dev scene...
While I understand that people who used to do UIKit now go back with agentic coding (as it speeds up their slow process), I cannot understand why new developers choose UIKit over SwiftUI (And I strongly believe that most actually don't. X is an echo chamber for minorities).

When we had a Swift app @kosmik_app we moved from UIkit to Swift UI… Only to revert to UIkit 6 months later. Cells would not register clicks, elements would behave differently on Mac/iPad, and everything was sssllloowww

I’ve lost the war against SwiftUI. Unfortunately will be ripping it out of the entire app except for basic screens. We are in dire need of a pure UIKit backed library that is more like HTML-in-swift than React-in-swift. I’d love css style selectors too. The reactive layer needs to be built on top of a declarative layout syntax (like SwiftUI) but we need to be able to opt into any kind of virtual DOM style tree diffing / reactive state. Imperative state management is not a bad thing and IMO it’s worth the verbosity to have complete control over render life cycles. Theres also no reason why swift shouldn’t have fine-grained, element level updates that bypass a virtual tree just like how @solid_js has.

If you want to go viral on X, it’s actually pretty simple:
→ Quit your 9-5 and announce you’re all-in on indie hacking
→ Buy a MacBook and ask what you should install first
→ Book a one-way ticket to Southeast Asia to follow your dreams
→ Get your first paying customer and post your revenue dashboard
→ Launch your first iOS app and talk about how nervous you are about approval
→ Get rejected by the App Store (extra reach if it happens multiple times)
→ Ask pointless things like which AI tool people would delete forever
→ Work on a Friday/Saturday night and post a laptop pic about “the grind”
→ Share your monthly expenses in whatever country you’re in
That’s it. That’s the formula.

Engineering job openings are at the highest levels we’ve seen in over 3 years There are over 67,000 (!!!) eng openings at tech companies globally right now, with 26,000 just in the U.S. We don’t know if there would have been more open roles if not for AI or if AI is actually leading to more open roles, but since the start of this year, the increase in open eng roles is accelerating even more.
