@Variety Brian Wilson had little to do with Pet Sounds. It was mostly the Wrecking Crew and various songwriters and producers who made that album. Brian Wilson was not a musical genius; that was made up by the label as an answer to the Beatles. I say this as a huge Beach Boys fan.

Beach Boys co-founder Mike Love says Brian Wilson was "depressed" over the initial reception of "Pet Sounds": "He put so much into it, so much effort, that yes, he had to be depressed at the reception that Capitol Records gave it.
