Death by algorithm: Having come face to face with the heart of darkness, Gerald Draper devoted the rest of his life to ensuring there were appropriate courts where war crimes could be tried and to making sure these rules were known, understood and honoured by armed forces around the world. Gerard Kilroy in @The_Tablet thetablet.co.uk/features/death…

Just over two weeks after learning about the appalling and horrific murder of Ann Widdecombe, and having written my own tribute to her and reflections on her remarkable life for @The_Tablet, I came home this morning from a long overseas visit to find this remarkable edition of The Tablet with this beautiful front cover tribute by Peter Stanford. The headline sums Ann up simply but wonderfully. She was indeed good company!

My new op-ed in @The_Tablet about Ann Widdecombe "Much of politics in many democracies has become far too toxic in recent years, and the consequences of that toxicity can be deadly, as we have seen both in the U.K. and in the United States. May we learn from Ann Widdecombe’s style of politics – one of integrity, conviction and courage, but also humanity, humour, and kindness – even if we might not agree with all her views. May her killer be brought to justice, and may she rest in peace." Ann Widdecombe – the ‘most extraordinary conviction politician’ thetablet.co.uk/blogs/ann-widd…

And what remains is love: In this week’s @The_Tablet Peter Stanford draws out Greg Doran on the loss of his childhood faith (he’s not a lapsed Catholic, he “jumped”) & the “massive displacement exercise” he embarked on following the death of his husband of 35 years, Antony Sher thetablet.co.uk/features/and-w…

When @Bridgeanne – a 61-year-old Catholic, married and mother of four – decided to explore a calling to the priesthood, she found that “the only person who gave me a hard time was myself”. She couldn’t hear Jesus for the “Who do you think you are?” voices screaming in her head. Then something interesting happened …  thetablet.co.uk/columnists/i-c…

I worked with Ed over a number of years on @The_Tablet related issues. Lovely, kind and intelligent man who will be sorely missed. #RIP

Very sad to hear the news about dear colleague Ed Stourton. He helped me with great patience and kindness learn the ropes on @BBCR4Sunday - & we were fellow trustees @The_Tablet and fellow RCs. A huge intellect and great heart. Praying for him and his family this morning.

I feel terrible that I hadn’t realised that the brilliant poet Elizabeth Jennings had her centenary on the 18th July. So glad that The Tablet had a celebratory article @brendanwalsh53 . Earlier this year I recorded and shared a number of her poems but got little feedback 🥲
