Feedback is a compass for improvement and not all feedback is created equally. For Q4 share your content area and consider your best practices and those you would like to try #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A5: I have devoted a lot of PLC and professional development time this year to creating a choice board for assessments for every unit of study. The kids responded well to the ones I trailed and expressed feeling more confident when being able to choose! #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

This morning's 5th and final Q is on assessment #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset “You can enhance or destroy students’ desire to succeed in school more quickly and permanently through your use of assessment than with any other tool you have at your disposal.” – Dr. Rick Stiggins

@RutgersAltRoute I think one of the biggest challenges that I face in developing a growth mind-set is lack of time. There are so many responsibilities that we as educators have and the pressure of state testing can also be stressful.

@Thegrav5 @RutgersAltRoute I think what you mentioned is great! Any form of feedback is important! I think the key is that it is often and as immediate as possible. If you wanted to change it up, you could record a video back to them w feedback. But I think written feedback is awesome!

@aye_mrjames @RutgersAltRoute I like to provide feedback using the sandwich method, something positive, something that needs more practice or attention, then another positive.

@RutgersAltRoute Feedback should be timely, reflective and forward-thinking. Feedback should focus on the positives first. When discussing areas of improvement, educators should be direct and encouraging. #teachered #growthmindset

@KGainerteacher @RutgersAltRoute I do written feedback a lot since my students submit mostly video assignments in ASL, should I incorporate other types more often to foster growth mindset?

@RutgersAltRoute A4: When Ts give feedback to Ss, they should share what students need to do to make their mistake right, not just telling them what they did wrong. Ts should change the way they phrase their feedback to Ss to make it in a positive light. #teachered #growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A4: I provide specific feedback using comments like wow great job on x, now try to focus a bit more on y. Or groups are made up of various mastered skills to help each other improve. I also will say, I recognize and appreciate your effort on z. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A3: we have to construct our approach, mainly language, around new concepts carefully. I often allow students to work in collaborative groups to feel ok to explore the topic and their feelings on it. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

Framing, or how teachers introduce new concepts and tasks to students, is the focus of Q3. Framing can steer students to a fixed or growth mindset. It helps students feel free to be a work in progress as they learn. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A2: Studnets come to ASL after failing other spoken languages; they come with an ‘I’m not a language person’ mindset. I use lots of kinesthetic and station like lessons to help them learn material. When they start improving their mindset changes to a “yet” outlook. #TeacherEd

@RutgersAltRoute This is my 13th year in the classroom and I have seen more challenges following the COVID-19 pandemic. My district was away from the building from March 2020 through September 2021 and this impacted their mindset. Over the last 3 years we have incorporated social emotional

@RutgersAltRoute A1: Sometimes at the high school level students come with completely fixed mindsets. I have found freshman to be more malleable than seniors. But a good relationship can go a long way! #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A5: I always feel we need to be more realistic with our consequences which administrators are not good with! If students tear something they should fix it, if they make a mess they should clean it…natural consequences. #TeacherEd #SpecialEd

Teachers play a role in helping students learn and practice self-awareness skills and communicate their understanding. For Q4 think about what you’ve done or ideas you’d like to implement to help students be self-advocates, agents of their own success #TeacherEd #SpecialEd

@RutgersAltRoute A3: depends on the student but I partner and group kids carefully, I check in with high need students and pull groups during independent work times, modify material using counselors and special ed recommendations. Record video supports and have examples in assignment links.

@RutgersAltRoute I aim to get more fidgets that do not require the student to be looking at them. I think this is a key insight from the provided video. I also have been implementing agenda checks with my ADHD students. I look forward to adding a checklist to this practice. #TeacherEd #SpecialEd

Dr. Jonas Bromberg & teacher Jon Weinberger discuss classroom strategies to support students with ADHD (youtube.com/watch?v=Dd62-e…) like providing fidget tools and offering checklists. For Question 2 (Q2) consider what's worked or ideas you want to try #TeacherEd #SpecialEd
