@rubae_ @RutgersAltRoute Yes yes yes! We allow our Ss to fix their mistakes after some extra instruction. Schools about learning and understand the concepts taught, not just a report card grade.

@RutgersAltRoute A5: I mentioned this in a previous answer, but please allow your students to revise incorrect answers on their exams and give class time for misunderstood concepts! School is not just about report cards and grades, spread positive learning!

This morning's 5th and final Q is on assessment #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset “You can enhance or destroy students’ desire to succeed in school more quickly and permanently through your use of assessment than with any other tool you have at your disposal.” – Dr. Rick Stiggins

@KLeeKC @RutgersAltRoute Love this! A big end of unit test is not for every student. Having various and more frequent checkins for understanding is so important!

@RutgersAltRoute I use multiple paths to success. My at-risk population needs educational wins. Sometimes the class discussion is the assessment. Providing different assessments acknowledges that I respect that they learn and demonstrate their learning in different ways.#TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute We use a lot of pre-assessment opportunities and exit tickets. I would love to work on more diverse hands on assessments my students. Using their interests and incorporating them in these assessments.

@RutgersAltRoute A5. Assessments should not just be multiple choice questions that rely on student recall. Assessments should give students opportunities to show off what they know about a topic. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute I think one of the biggest challenges that I face in developing a growth mind-set is lack of time. There are so many responsibilities that we as educators have and the pressure of state testing can also be stressful.

@RutgersAltRoute A5: I also allow Ss to evaluate themselves. Ss are given the same rubric I use + grade their own work. This helps them to get feedback right away + can push them to improve if they feel they don't fall into a specific category on the rubric.  #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A5: (2/2) Taking a growth mindset approach to tests could look like allowing students opportunities to reassess + giving them a space to improve. Ts could offer more frequent assessments + offer more feedback. another way to foster a growth mindset w assessment is offering choice

@RutgersAltRoute A5: (1/2) Assessment is an important part of education. It allows Ts to see who's mastered or who is struggling w a concept. There's not a one size fits all assessment tool for Ss. Every Ss is different. #TeacherEd #growthmindset

@TeachingMomma29 @RutgersAltRoute Of course! It’s so powerful! I’ve seen districts where the principals call home w positive messages about Ss and the Ss stand by their side and hear the principal share it w the parents. SO POWERFUL!

@Thegrav5 @RutgersAltRoute I think what you mentioned is great! Any form of feedback is important! I think the key is that it is often and as immediate as possible. If you wanted to change it up, you could record a video back to them w feedback. But I think written feedback is awesome!

@KGainerteacher @RutgersAltRoute I do written feedback a lot since my students submit mostly video assignments in ASL, should I incorporate other types more often to foster growth mindset?

@MTrauwaert @RutgersAltRoute I teach 6th (my district has it in elementary but most it’s in the MS) + I send notes home, but you could send it in an email to the parents or even call home with a positive message about the Ss! I know some schools have the principal call home w the Ss right there to hear 😄
