I don’t think most English people think in these terms – but, if pressed, they don’t have a problem with Archbishop Mullally and wish her well. The people who *have* made a choice are English Anglo-Catholics, whose Primate is the lady on the right. No matter how ornate their vestments, how scrupulously they follow Roman rubrics, how supposedly watertight their ‘alternative oversight’, they have elected to remain members of a Church led by Dame Sarah.

For those at the back who think it is a conspiracy or incredible that the security services did not leap into action to chase down a mobile phone (rather than just brick it) because it had the PM's number on it...

So blatant are they to go 'foreign name = bad', they've even added middle names in for people like Sarah Owen whose name doesn't sound scary enough to these people. Letting the cat out of the bag with this one.
Lucy White@lucyjaynewhite1

These are the MPs/Lords of foreign descent trying to silence @NJ_Timothy for his comment that "the domination of public places (Trafalgar Square) is straight from the Islamist playbook" Our decades of tolerance are over. If they don't like it here, they have a homeland to go to.

@Rgt71Robert @ArchbishopSarah @churchofengland I think it's important to have the Bishops be not only flag-bearers for the Church's historic role, but they also have a practical role given the need for Church legislation to pass through Parliament.

Whole bunch of conservative Catholic commentators, having a go at @ArchbishopSarah about abortion. Followed by a whole bunch of conservative @churchofengland commentators having a go at them for having a go. Well both miss the moral political issue. In a modern democracy, laws should be shaped by the people, not by clerical office or religious privilege. Christians have a right & duty to speak, to challenge, to provoke conscience. That’s part of a free society. But when bishops in the House of Lords move from voice to vote, that’s both immoral and anti-Christ whose teaching on power is quite clear. Faith can guide. Faith can inspire. But faith leaders should not legislate. We don’t need to silence bishops. We just need to draw a line: 👉 voice, not vote. Bishops can preach. Parliament should decide. #BishopsOut @NatSecSoc @Humanists_UK

Have received word that the Bishops of Winchester and Norwich are not attending Parliament to vote against ABORTION UP TO BIRTH due to unspecified "diary commitments". This is extremely disappointing.

This is a total misunderstanding of the constitutional role of Parliament. Our system was never intended to be dominated solely by party politicians. The Commons represents the people, while the Lords has historically reflected the wider institutions and power brokers of the nation - the Church, the judiciary, the aristocracy, and independent expertise. Hereditary peers provide a living link to our history and bring an independence from the narrow tribalism of party politics. That continuity has long been a unique strength of our parliamentary system, not a weakness.
Nick Thomas-Symonds@NickTorfaen

Yesterday the final stages of the Bill to remove hereditary peers concluded. Parliament should be a place where talents are recognised. It should never be a place where titles handed out centuries ago hold power over the people. I’m proud to have delivered this manifesto pledge.

The British Government's position is nuanced, clear, and correct. It's also frightfully dull, so will play badly on social media.

Great to be out with the Prime Minister in Gorton and Denton campaigning for the great Angeliki Stogia. Labour was here for communities before the Greens and Reform circus arrived in town and we'll be serving them long after. #UnityNotDivision #VoteLabour

There has been intense escalation in the Middle East, with increasingly reckless strikes from the Iranian regime targeting Gulf allies and locations including bases, airports and hotels. This directly impacts British nationals in the area. We recognise this is an unsettling time and the safety and wellbeing of those impacted remains our top priority.

@TiersofaKlown Thats why I put what I did. I don't hate nor look down on fellow brothers in Christ who disagree - even extremely strongly - with my politics and how that connects to how we are called to live our lives.

@TiersofaKlown My political views are informed by my religious worldview of Christ's love. I support Labour because I want to respond to Christ's call of grace, charity and to help the meek. Not that Christians dont disagree on ways to do that politically, but its the way I do.
