Am I the only person annoyed with the wrong bass note played on the last verse of Unchained Melody? Well, I fixed it. DM for the link.

Feels like a weird time for local entertainment at bars. Not sure if this is just where I live, but seems like the good DJs/Bands from 15-25 yrs ago have all gotten grandfathered in, & most are still working -- so lots of local entertainment is starting to get up there in age lol

@whatsgoodJeffG The organization has to be on point! That’s so true. I will say with the cdj3000’s, library navigation got much better. It will only improve from here.

I recently went full stand-alone, and can confidently say going off USBs can be a steep learning curve. You can get away with being disorganized on a laptop. You can’t with USBs.

Question I’m asked most by students.... “Can I skip the turntable class and just play on CDJs. That's what I see everyone using.” 2 classes today played their first sets on CDJs w/USBs. Every single student said they preferred Serato after their experience. CDJ2000nxs2 & 900nxs2

@DJRTistic 100% agree. They need to be familiar with both so they can operate in any situation. We had the conversation about which spaces prefer which platform and why.

My most recent student has a brand new laptop, and a controller that allows USB. The DJs in her circle are all USB, and she used the laptop for the first time with me. She def prefers the laptop, and I told her to just learn how to use both of them bc you never know what’s there

@bestbutthead @djaudio1 @Serato They’re a lot of fun. I’ve always enjoyed playing with all types of gear, for experimentation at least. Each piece of gear makes you use your skills slightly differently. But when it comes to show time, we all have our comfort zone.

@djaudio1 @Therealdjjd @Serato I’ve been spinning for 8ish years now and never even touched CDJs once .. right now e ery where I play has techinics w/ my phase and use rev-7 when I gotta bring my own gear . The turntables and mixer stays set up ready to go in the house though .. I’d love to try some CDJs soon

@Therealdjjd It happens a lot. We teach Rekordbox, but when they see me killing a demo with @Serato and then introduce stems, Its immediate change of perspective to them. In the end, if they can master beatmatching, count beats/bars and phrase, They can whatever works for them.

@DJDigitalDave1 @DJEU Interesting. What kind of issues did you have? I feel like certain intel chips and OS Verizon didn’t work as well. The SL4 was notorious during this period too.

Only 30 min in & had to turn it off and come to X to see what fights this started. Having been a music director for a big club during this whole era, I can say that the 900 became THE standard due to the edm riders starting in 2009. Until then it was either a 57 or 800.
DJ CROOKED@djcrooked

Critique or Correct? I'm sorry but anyone saying the S9 is a "club mixer" doesnt know what they're talking about esp in regards to SOUND. Theres 3 different stories behind each mixer from the 900 to S9 to S11...its not about one is hip-hop and the other is edm. Thats ignorance.

This conversation mirrors the transition from turntables to CDJs as well. Same exact reasons, plus a few more.

Of course the 900 sounded way better than the 57. Hip hop and open format Dj’s still preferred it. That’s what AM used… Eventually the s9 came out, but it was too late by this point. Edm riders had required the 900 for too long. Everyone was used to it now. It’s here to stay.

@DJRTistic I heard you! Back then it was def seen as an edm mixer to the hip hop / open format Dj’s. I remember those convos. The djs who came around to the 900 early were “riding the edm wave.” Yes it was standard since the 800 at least, but wasn’t preferred for HH/OF until much later.

@Therealdjjd Wow. And that’s basically alllll I was saying. It wasn’t a “vs” in that context, but just that EDM DJs usually preferred the 900 while Hip Hop ones that I’ve seen prefer two channels. Didn’t mean I called it an “EDM mixer” at all

@Therealdjjd Also the SP1 was game changer to use with the 900. A lot of the times the 900 “club kit” would give DJ’s issue. And don’t forget the 900srt.
