Pay attention to the strategy Mark Carney is trying to execute with Canada's auto industry:
"We view the future of automotive as being low emission, electric, and connected.
We’re seeing this as an opportunity, working with Japanese companies, working with Korean companies, working with German companies, working with other companies, the Detroit Three as they come to it..."
The precieved threat is that US automakers and manufacturing will leave Canada, especially if there is a CUSMA renegotiation.
US automakers have recently took huge EV related hits and pivoted.
Other automakers won't expand into Canada just based on having a share of Canada's auto industry.
So Canada is implementing a tariff (credit) system for local makers and introducing all the ZEV mandates that will favour these automakers thus pushing more of the supply of products to them. Also the billions in ZEV industry related subsidies.
The bet is that any US based companies leaving will be replaced by Asian companies and that when Donald Trump is gone the US will pivot back towards EV transition and pricing mechanism and Canada's auto industry will be positioned for that.

BC Premier David Eby says British Columbians and Canadians need information about the identity of the Tumbler Ridge mass shooter:

The initial emergency alert to Tumbler Ridge residents described the shooter as "a female in a dress with brown hair." The RCMP is not releasing the identity of the shooter, citing privacy concerns, referring to the shooter as a "deceased gunperson."

Can someone explain this to me:
Canada has $0 in gold reserves and sent Ukraine over $20B in support, for example.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has tens of billions in gold reserves (international as well), and has been stockpiling more.
Shouldn't they be using their assets to defend themselves.? What is going on here?

It isn't correct to blame Mark Carney for our gold reserves.
In 1960s Canada had over 1,000 tonnes. When Carney became BoC governor we had just over 3.
Bank of Canada doesn't sell gold reserves, the responsibility falls under the Finance Minister.
We should be building the reserve back up and should be part of new mine announcements.

I have a close friend that used to work with Carney. He was presented findings when he was the head of the Bank of Canada, pleaded with him to not sell our gold reserves. Carney, brushed him off. The gold sell off predated Carney, but he continued down that path. Then when he went to be the Governor for the Bank of England, he didn’t sell a single ounce of gold. He learned from his mistake in Canada. And now: we are paying the price. Fiat is going down the drain. The value of the dollar is eroding and for the majority of Canadians that do not have the capital to invest in stocks, they’re facing an affordability crisis unlike anything seen before
